HI,

pentium D : 2.66
ram : 4gig trancend 800Mhz
mobo : xfx nvidia 730i (onboard 7150)
hdd : seagate 250gb (barracuda 7200rpm)
optical drive : lg dvd writer 16x
monitor : viewsonic wmxx 22in lcd (1680x1080)max resolution 16:10
audio : realtek HD onboard
creative 5.1 (soundblaster) analogue
graphics : nvidia 7950gt (512MB)

able to play 720p but some movies still sometime shows stucks and lags
1080 p will open audio is perfect but video freezes.

this pc was unused i thought od using it instead of buying a media player.
but not sure why its not playing 1080p ?

i guess this conf can handle a 1080p.. ne suggestions ??

Hi,

You forgot to mention the OS and the player you are using! I have something similiar to your configuration but I could play 1080p rip without any stuttering.

Really, could not think of much other than some virus or OS issues! Some experts can probably chip in!

Cheers!

vlc and os is win7..
however the direct x win7 uses is 10 and the graphics card that i mentioned what manufactured at the time when direct x 9 was in use..
however 7950gt was the best card for direct x 9 series card from nvidia that was available that point of time and i used to play heavy games on it.. not sure whats messing up now.. ?

ne mismatchs. coz i can still do multiple thinsg on it and its still does it flawlessly..
also i m not trying the 1080p rips but movies of size 11-15 gigs (1080p) mkv/avi formats.

also m 1000% sure that my pc is not infected by viruses.
i was in tech support for 3 long years and now into IT.
cpu usage is normal and all threads running makes sense in it..nutin extra..
computer is perfectly normal.. but just 1080p is the mess

Try updating the motherboard & graphic card drivers.
Which media player SW do you use? Try with KMPlayer.

If nothing works try clean re-install of the OS.

I thing CPU is under powered & need to update system.

i don't think there wd be any issue with the procy..
onboard 7150 is decent enough..

4 things i wd suggest..try 3rd/4th only if 1 and 2 dont work..
1) Do not use SATA drive in IDE mode.. change to AHCI if possible..
2) Install CoreAVC.. give zoom player a try.. else u can run with windows media player.. check the configuration of CoreAVC to be be preferred decoder..
3) Get a decent CPU cooler (eg 212 plus) Enable turbo boost for onboard GPU from mobo and have the GPU overclocked by 15-20%
4) Get back to WinXP Pro SP2 (use nLite to slip the AHCI drivers), try basic setup and then run the 1080p..

Change the OS to xp SP2 and all will be fine, dont ask me why or how (yet) .....
and instead of VLC use MPC for HD videos.....

processor in not powerful however video has to be handled by the pci-e graphics card.. also i m not using the onboard 7150 now it has an additional 7950gt 512 mb.. sams9 i guess xp is what i can do coz i remember on xp this system used to work wonders.
also sata is not on ide i chked it i got 2x250gb on raid 0. that cannot be the issue.
data buffer rate crosses 150 MBps
also will the other player play the container files of matroska format ?

okay dude no point in buying and separate media player for 1080p playback. Processor is not a problem - hell even 1080P (.h264) will play fine on a rig with atom processor. My other system has a AMD Athlon 3000+ (1.8 Ghz) You just need a better graphics card that can handle BDrips and reduce CPU usage to 10-30% with your current processor.

I would say a low cost AMD 5000 series (5670 recommended for gaming as well and from a long term perspective can bitstream HD audio as well which mopst budget nvidia cards lack) would be a great buy for you. Follow the links here and download MPC-HC. Try using DXVA through MPC-HC - you will see the wonders you can achieve by enabling various shaders to movies even 700 mb rips. You cna also try the #ahem# version of CoreAVC but with your proccy it can still give problems of jerky playback but give it a try (on bigger screens you can notice the diffrence in PQ vs DXVA playback though). It works on ATOM proccy too for 720p rips only. My suggestion stick to ATI 5670 (low power and no molex power supply needed and can power through the pcie slot) else you can try GTS 250 - for which a psu upgrade might be necessary

How to get hardware accelerated H264 playback (DXVA) - techPowerUp! Forums
My collection of short anime reviews >> Watching h.264 videos using DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA).

BTW the 5670 is fatser than your 7950 too so no gaming drawback. Also windows 7 is better at multimedia than XP but is a resource hog at times. So if you are using windows XP stick with that and use VMR9 rendlerless in MPC HC. Very decent and acceptable video playback with less of a hog. In fact on XP i used to downclock my CPU (800 MHZ on AMD 3000+ 1.8 GHz on XP and upto 600 MHZ on AMD 7750 2.7 GHz on XP for flawless HD playback).

Always do your own research - its all there on the net.

theironhorse - you are asking too much of the system to run Windows 7 as well as 1080p videos at the same time :). With this configuration, its better if you load XP.

Or if you like Windows 7 you will have to upgrade your machine. In specific the processor as well as the RAM.

I agree that you are using GC,but in many GC reviews,CPU uses also calculated.
Secondly when you see GC requirement, you can see minimal CPU reqd.
For new GC(ATI) one need E6300 & above.

dude my download rig was running the *ahem* version of windows 7 for 4 months before I went back to XP (original). It ran smoothly underclocked at 800 Mhz speed (1.8 Ghz of AMD XP 3000+), Transcend ram (667 mhz) with a 8800 GTs - had aero enabled, played HD rips, hell even transcoded 1080p rips (at 1.8 Ghz) to my ps3 over the network. Played HD rips (1080P) rips as well with a nvdia 8400 GS - but I sold it off and use this machine for a all purpose download cum surfing rig. MPC-HC with windows XP/windows & + the right codecs can set right tis problem area.

Suprateep - do you deny that Windows 7 is heavier on the system than XP?

In the long run, for the hardware that he has, a 32 bit operating system such as XP would work best.

And in these days, I dont think it is worthwhile to sit and mess with codecs. The best thing is to use players that come with all codecs. And nowadays you also have the use of very good frontends for the legendary mplayer. SPlayer and SMPlayer to name just two. Both are pretty good. And there is always KMPlayer and VLC.

The 1.0.5 Golden Eye version takes video players to the next level.

thanks suprateep.. psu will not be a prob..its already running on a monstrous cooler master 700w psu. however i checked on MPC and K-lite kodec pack and seems probllem reduced to 95% rest 5 can due to the old graphics adapter as it is direct 9x and win 7 on direct x 10..

thanks to all guys .. mpc and k-lite did the job finally after long years i retired me old trustable vlc player..

however next mojor step is to debug the hdd and make a bootable disk of xp with raid drivers integrated and get back to xp sp2 on raid 0
with SAME CONF...

THX GUYS AGAIN FOR THE HELP.

Trust me your system is fine to play 1080p. Just shift to XP SP2 and problem will be solved.......MPC plays all as VLC does but seems to be more powerfull for HD videos.

Hey Vortex no denying the fact that Windows 7 seems heavier but somehow the startup time and shutdown time was lower than XP than on the same machine, for surfing etc it was faster but when it came to actual HD playback there was a observed hint of sluggishness -obcourse limited ram and a very very slow single core proccy did not help.

Windows 7 is very well coded (a sea change from Vista) - and with decent reosurces is faster than XP - atleast for general work. For limited resources and overall support nothing beats to XP.

yeah its working on win7 and now even playing 1080... vlc is retired now after giving me long term service..
now its mpc with k-lite..

however need to replace the heat sink paste.. getting artic silver and aftermarket cooler
probably an artic freezer to keep the processor cool as it is running a lil hotter than before..
