14" crt!

In this world of LED and LCD, I need a 14" CRT for my bachelor room.
Showrooms rarely stock it. If they do, a LG costs about Rs.4.5k - 1.5k less than a 21" CRT! I don't want a 21" CRT..all i need some TV with minimal investment.

Any ideas?

^^u r thoroughly mistaken on the LCD front mate....19" Samsung LCDs go for 6k net price....so, u should be able to source a 17" for even lower quote.I would advice u to go that route.

PS:24" LCDs are available around the 12k mark as well.

Bur right now i need something in the <4k range as these are makeshift kind of, for me.

oh k, mate....there was a 15" CRT available in another forum for 450/- bucks picked up at Pune.Maybe u should check it out.

less than 50 K LCDs are no match for CRT of 14". Stick to CRT. it will give clear picture and best color reproduction which only high end LCD can do. For a single person room thats best.

Actually have a laptop. But I think its not suitable for long hours of TV viewing?

How good is this -> Connecting a old CRT computer monitor directly to Tunercard [no CPU here only monitor]

correct... laptop is not suitable for long hours of TV viewing unless you have a cooling pad to place it on. Connecting external TV tuner card to PC monitor (without CPU) is a great idea. But you will have to live with the tinny radio-like sound from the tuner's in-built speakers.

you should look for used tv or monitor in that price. New will never come to belwo 4k as various costs involved. Monitor with tuner card is ok but you will need seperate speakers for them which may mess up some additional space & wiring. best look for used electronics shop near your place. They keep plenty of them due to flat panel exchange schemes..I have seen 25 sony wega as little as 4k for very good condition. So you may expect 2k for a decent one plus on the spot audition. You will get best SD AV quality from a CRT only. I am using new 22 samsung LCD with tuner card composite in and 21 samsung plano old CRT composite in for same D2H connection. CRT just beats my LCD by many ways.
