Hi
I am a newbie. I already have a projector and looking for a HT system.
Honestly I do not know what i am looking for. I just want a better sound than my in built speakers of projector (!). I do not want care about very loud system and typically watch things in low volume. So as long as sound is "clean" i should be fine. Also my budget is quite low. Assume < 50K total including UPS. My usage is 50:50 for Music/Movies and limited.

1) Probably a HTIB suits me. Any recommendations?

2) Somebody suggested Pioneer VSX329 AV Receiver Looks like this receiver is out of production. VSX330 seems to be the successor. is it any good? I see it has only one HDMI output. Is n't that a big disadvantage if the HDMI port goes bad?

3) Please recommend speaker model as well. Can not use floorstanders because it is not a dedicated room.

4) How about speaker placement in the layout. I need to plan for internal wiring as the house is in interior stage. Following is layout of the room. I have marked the screen location. The room size is 18 feet by 11 feet

5) I am also open to 2.1 system for now. I would have been on with a second hand system too but do not have time to hunt for it.

6) Which are the recommended shops to audition in Bangalore? I checked out Harman today in Phoneix market city but the model was out of budget.

7) Any recommendation on the UPS model? I just need time to switch off the projector

8) How big should be the storage for UPS/AV. I am planning to integrate it in the wardrobe (lower 3 feet).
Sorry about long post. Appreciate any inputs.

The source would be computer. Any specific model for Yamaha/Creative that you would recommend?
Does anybody know any dealer in Bangalore where I can audition. Do not want to buy without listening. If i don't like HTIB, i would stick to a 2.1 or stereo system in my budget.

Given than it is your bedroom, I suggest avoiding traditional 5.1 speaker systems (and associated wiring issues) and go for a soundbar

You yourself say you arent ALL that particular about having "audiophile" sound
Plus soundbars are a very convenient solution. The subwoofer on almost all new soundbar systems are wireless and hence can be placed anywhere in the room. And quite a few models come with Bluetooth etc

Models - the Sony/Philips should be in 20-30k range and some of the Sony models are quite good, so definitely listen to them

If you want audiophile brands, then Polk/Boston Acoustics/Wharfedale etc also have soundbars available, but they might be slightly higher priced

Ok. In my opinion, if it's only to improve the sound and it's for a bedroom, I would not suggest a 5.1 system. Try getting a pair of good stereo speakers such a Swan D1080 costing around 12k. You could also check out Boston acoustics xs2.1 costing around 15k. These have really tiny satellites and a very capable sub woofer.

My father in law uses a Panasonic HT 20 which is a 2.1 unit with his TV and loves it. It actually sounds really good with both music and movies. Accepts a USB input too.

Thanks!
I had rules out soundbars as there is no TV in this room and i thought soundbars are mainly used with a TV to save on wiring/space etc. I have just a projector. Also there is no problem in wiring etc as interior work is still going to happen. I will try to find a place to audition soundbars. Not sure where to find Polk/Boston Acoustics/Wharfdale in Bangalore. I guess Google will help.

Polk is carried by Pro FX, so you should be able to listen to them there

Thanks!! Swan sees to have great review at Amazon. So does Boston Acoustics XS2.1 but they seem to be discontinued but i have not looked hard. I will try to find a place to audition. I guess i won't need a AVR with these options.
General question, Is there place in Bangalore which deals with multiple brands to audition? I visited Bose and Harman over the weekend and both are out of my budget.

I doubt you will be able to audition either of these. You could visit pro fx for Polk and Kef, DNI for Dali, HT store, blabber, etc.
