Hi all.. i am new to this thread.
i had a glance through the discussion and just confused on plasma vs LED ! anyway i dont want to bring this again here..

Like to know on following things,

1. the distance is 10 feet. but with sofa, i think effective distance would
be 9 to 9.5 ft? So like to know whether 40" or 46" will be better?

2. When i look into Samsung LED, the cost differ based on clear motion rate.
think clear motion rate defines the clarity of the picture? what would
be the ideal rate for 40" and 46"?

3. I dont want 3D, like to have wifi built-in with browser feature.
is there any LED / Plasma available with this requirement.
( just give only pros and cons.. no debate pls :) ).

4. TV will be used for gaming too. xbox or PS3. like to enjoy motion gaming with my cousins.. not yet decided on which one to buy.. suggestion are welcome

Thanks

40" is OK but 46" will give you greater immersing experience. 46" size is perfectly fine at this distance.

There is no ideal rate for any size. Basically you should play your content on each TV and decide what you like most. I have heard that CMR actually spoils the picture and creates a "soap opera effect".

3. I dont want 3D, like to have wifi built-in with browser feature.

Built-in wifi with resident browser is available on mid/top end models only. 3D is also bundeled in. AFAIK, there are no models that have the later but not the former.

For most games, LED or plasma are fine. Only for action packed games such as NFS, plasma may shine because of instataneous response and no motion smoothing required.

Thanks.

I measured and found the distance is 8 ft. will 46" will still be ok?

any recommendation on 46" LED Sony and Panasonic? is still the samsung is better?

46" is just about right. If you can afford it, go for it.

You have not specified a budget (I think). You can go for the following models:
  • Sony, LG, Samsung are all good brands having a decent lineup in the LED range
  • Panasonic is known more for plasma but have equally comparable LED TVs (comparable to Sony, LG, etc.)
  • Most LED TVs in 46" are 3D enabled; I feel that passive 3D is better than active 3D even though passive 3D gives 1920x540p picture to each eye alternately. Read about it.
  • Sony recommendations: EX650 as minimum base and then go above models depending upon budget. Sony does not offer much discount.
  • Samsung: 6 Series or above.
  • LG: Cinema 3D models LM6400 or above.
  • Panasonic: E5/ET5 or above. E5 series is non-3D
I am assuming that you are not interested in plasma; if that is not the case, look at plasma models also; you can get a 50" plasma for less than the price of a 46" LED.

For all models do a demo with your reference material. Showroom settings are bright/dynamic. Change them and then compare.

budget is around a lakh. if i can pack PS3 or XBOX within the budget, that would be great.

the living room where TV will find a place has large french window on one side complete perpendicular to the tv placement. So afraid whether plasma can fit in there.

What are the passive 3d options available on all brands?

Passive 3D brands:

LG: Cinema 3D models, LW5700, LW6700 and all LM series
Panasonic: ET5.

If you want to accommodate PS3 or XBox (roughly 20K), then your TV budget is restricted to 80K. You can get a 42" TV in that price.

today i spend around 2 hours checking Samsung and Panasonic in nearby reliance digital. They were having an old model panasonic plasma P42X50D.

Samsung all variants..

I am convinced on Pany's picture quality.

After reading lot of information here, i copied many different files from youtube to check in showroom. luckily the guy who was showing me was good enough to demo.. plug/unplug USB stick play in different tv

I was so convinced on Pany until i play a sample clip.. which i am uploading here
AmosSurfing_DivXPlus_10Mbps.mkv

There was little delay in refreshing some part of the scene in Pany, while it played smooth in samsung.

Still i have an inclination towards Pany.. dont know the reason.. !

I want you guys to check this clip with your pany and let me know whether the model P42X50D model require some settings. may be as it is not Full HD ?

Cost quoted by Reliance digital for pany and samy is below
Pany:
P42X50D - 46888/-
P422XT50D - 49900/-
Samy:
40ES6200R - 80500/-
46ES6800R - 115200/-

Can some one recommend which model i should go if i have to go with Panasonic Plasma?

my requirement,
- Wifi inbuilt
- DLNA : this option helps to connect to broadband router
- wifi direct : this option will to directly connect to your laptop/tablet to play movies
(correct me if i am wrong)
- Web browser
- FULL High Defenition ( i dont know much about HD and 1080p etc. as i have HD settop box, wish to have TV compatible to HD)
- Blue ray compatible (FULL HD mean it should support, BD am i right?)
- like to go with 46.. but i have to settle with 42" as it is plasma.

DONT want 3D !

models with best price will help a lot.

The 42X50D is not an old model. The older model is 42X30. The X50 is at least twice as better than X30 because of the brighter panel, better contrast and improved blacks.

Most of your requirements are NOT met by Panasonic X50/XT50. You should look at UT50 models, if ST50 is beyond your reach.

The 3D is a feature that you are bound to get by default whether you want it or not - especially in TVs costing 60K and above (LED and Plasma).

Whats your budget - you have listed TVs from 40k to 112k? Viewing habits - Movies, TV, SD/HD etc?

And why only 42" Plasma - you can go for 50" Plasma as well..

Will suggest models based on information above..
