40'' LCD advice

I have to buy a 40 inch LCD within a budget of 45k. It is essential that the TV plays all formats through USB as I watch a lot of movies. I have shortlisted Samsung LCD-LA40D550K1R & Sony CX 420. I have heard that Sony doesn't support MKV format. Can anyone confirm? Also please suggest some LG model as I read that LG can play all formats.

I have to purchase it by tomorrow as prices will increase slightly from 1st April .


Another question - If I go ahead & buy the Sony which I'm getting for 43K then plz suggest a digital media player for playing usb movies within a reasonable budget.

Go for Bravia, its the best in PQ and SQ. it supports MKV but some files may have problem while playing. and in 3k more you will get 2 yrs additional warranty.

And in Bravia detailing is more than samsung. Go and take some VDO samples in a usb drive and test.hyeah:

And along with it you can buy Asus O play mini to play all formats of video n audio. This is a basic player but complete vfm.

Can anyone share their views on this Toshiba 40PB20 or Toshiba 40PB10 as it can play many formats at a substantial lower price point.

Hi Frnd, This model is good. but what i suggest you is take some sample VDO and some JPEG pics in a usb drive(HDD) and see for your self. ask the sales man to play the same in sony, samsung and toshiba. Toshiba also offers 3yrs warranty, which is good.but in my personal opinion, sony n sammy are the best. see the darker scene and try to notice, your eyes are the best judge. best way to decide is see the image from USB and see the color saturation and detailing.

Well I don't think all bravia's play .mkv because my Sony Bravia 32 inch EX420 does not play them.

Yes, yours is X-reality processor (they do'nt support all formats) and the basic CX, BX series supports all popular formats via usb.

I also checked the Toshiba & LG models. Toshiba has very few service centers & I didn't prefer the strong contrast in LG model.

So its between Sony BX420 & Samsung D550. I prefer the Sony whereas other family members prefer Samsung. I would have gone with their preference but Samsung model has SMVA panel instead of original Samsung panel.
I have asked for feedback for feedback on Samsung D550 in various places. Either way I'll buy the TV tomorrow as both models will be in stock.

Instead of 40PB20 or 40PB10 try 40PS10 LED approx price is 43K in Rajasthan. Awesome picture quality, i have checked side by side with Samsung 5 series LED. In this price Toshiba is invincible.
