Hello all.
I have bought a Simply Universal remote to make TV watching less confusing for my parents. It works wonderfully with a 22" Full HD LCD LG Flatiron M2262DL television - the TV button and the AV button both don't do anything so that makes it a great success. My parents would benefit from a bigger screen, 40" is around the best size for the room. I have tried the remote on a Sony Bravia 32" KDL CX 523 television and the TV button sends the TV into analogue mode (requiring the TV to be turned off and on again) and the AV button brings up a menu of options. The TV also periodically asks if the user wants a HD version of a channel. I have been to Currys and John Lewis. John Lewis allowed me to use the remote on the televisions and a Panasonic TX32MS360B appeared to work with it. I wasn't able however to establish whether the TV and AV buttons did anything or not. I am keen to establish whether a replacement TV will do as little as I need it to before I buy given that shops do not accept returns if the box has been opened. Happy to buy second hand as long as it works as I need it to.
