Which is the better plasma ?
Samsung 43E490 at 48K with BDP or
Panasonic 42XT50 at 51K with Home theatre.

How is the 3D on these TVs? In shops (Kochi) 3D eye wear is not on display for these models

Or is it better to buy LG CS470 42 inch LCD ? at 42K.

IMO, Toshiba 40PB20, and sharp LC40M550M better than the LG, but worried about after sales support.

Viewing mostly malayalam channels (SD).Now have airtel dth and FTA HD receiver. May upgrade to hD DTH. occasionally use Asus oplaymini to play downloaded movies. Viewing distance 8-15 ft, hence, HD/Full HD differentiation may not be significant.

xt panels are truly good indeed if you want to enjoy true plasma experience..
but as u mentioned that urs vewing choices and distance..may think of semi hd cheap pana/sammy plasma models say within 36k...just an idea no offence...

also if you finally go for xt model ...u mentioned.. negotiate with the shop to reduce the price further say 8k for not taking the HT system....if you already have a HT system u wont need...and if you want to truly enjoy that particuler HT will be of no use....(no multiple hdmi inputs, etc etc)
if ultimatly he does not get convinced its okay...

samsung probably has the best picture quality. surely better 3D. and better offer IMHO. try bargain for 45K. also additional 3D glass will cost only rs. 1500/-.

@god which shop in kochi u visit for better bargains in TV? i saw in someother post that 42X50(2D) is offered at 38K in kochi.is that a good price to go for?

There are minor variations only in published prices between the shops. The real difference is in the bargaining. If the sales agent or the shop is desperate to clinch the deal and they feel that you will buy on the spot, they give additional spot discount.
My general feeling is that the Pittappillil digishop at Edappally offers the lowest price.
This is not true always. For example, one of the forum member pkr reportedly purchased a Sharp 40 inch LCD for 37K from the fridgehouse mega store at Kadavanthra against the normal price of 42K ( including at Pittappillil). In my view this show room charges higher price. So finally. it is the timing and your bargaining power ( and intent to purchase) that leads to the lowest price.

My 43E490 with Airtel HD looks amazing...

Dont even think to buy a LCD TV you will feel problem like Motion blur, uneven contrast etc etc. I think LCD TV (CCFL backlight) is the worst technology in the history of TV segment. Always give PQ as a first priority.

As I observed for PQ of TV

CRT>Plasma>LED>LCD

Go with plasma it will give you a smooth and cool viewing.

I donot fully agree with this opinion. I have seen many LCDs in home settings, and are perfectly normal for watching daily soaps etc. During fast moving sports sceens like football, there are some motion blur.
I do like to buy plasma. But the models have only 1024x768 resolution, which is only one third of full HD resoiution. Although I am visually convinced that this is not a problem in 42 inch size, I could not overcome the mental block. That is why I am hesistating to buy plasmas. Moreover the CRT at home, is working perfectly now, and as you said, for SD channels CRT is the best.

god as u mentioned little difficult to mind set for 1024*768 plasmas.........u just buy full hd sammy or pana plasmas.2d models will be within 45k i think...even u also experimented them.........dont waste money on 3d models..u can have some other equipment with that money..
also in ur orvs post u mentioned u liked the sammy picture quality....its good they are giving a br player with the model u mentioned...

Thanks to all.

Congrats on your buy.
I guess you will recieve a blueray player+2 pair of 3d glass with this.
What was the best quote you recieve for 42X50 or 42XT50 and from which shop?
You were comparing panny X/XT series with samsung 43E.Can you share the main reason to opt for 43E490?
I heard from a couple of shops that 43E470 is now out of stock and i need to book it.

I did n't enquired price of X /XT in this shop. Actually I lives in Muvattupuzha, where plasmas are not on display. At shops in Ernakulam where I had previewed the models, the lowest price was 48K for E490 and 51K for XT50 (at Bismi, Kaloor and Pittappillil, Edappally). I got 45K at the Samsung Ex. Shop at MG Road for E490. Since plasmas are not hot items, the shops are willing to negotiate much.
In the preview at shops, XT/ E490 arre comparable. But IMO, the pic quality of SD channels, was better on samsung. And E490 claimed to have some kind of ambient light filter to reduce reflection( I don't know what it is!). The general feeling is that panasonic service is very pathetic in my area. So despite the 3 year warrenty of panny, I opted for samsung. There were complaints posted in this forum against XT30.

The fact is, no shop stocks plasmas. So when a customer demands one, they bought it from the company. So it take a few days for delivery. The large shops like Bismi seem to have company assigned salesmen are deployed on the shop floor and promoting Sony aggressively. So Every shop tries to sell first Sony to you. If you are not willing, then LG 3d LED and then samsung LED. Other brands, CCFL LCDs and plasmas are the outcasts and untouchables.

My dealer, Kuruvithadam, has a large shop and an exclusive showroom at Edappally, near oberon mall. I think you may be able to get same price there. Or you may bargain at Shops in TVM / Kollam/ Nagarcoi / Tirunelveli for a better price. I some where read that the BDP offer is till 30th August only. Please check.

E470 price I didn't enquired. If it is not for the 3D (for kids), I would have gone for a 42/40 /39 inch LCD of Videocon / Toshiba/ Onida, all are available around 30K, which IMO is largely sufficient for big screen experience by an ordinary user. You may be able to get E470 in the 35-38K range. If required, I will ask my dealer tomorrow.

Thanx for the info.
I think i will not be watching much 3D on TV and hence more inclined towards 43E470 or X50 .QRS kochi offered it for around 34 K and 38K respectively.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
