Guyz this is UrGENT. Does anyone out here have ANY experience of dealing with Shopyourworld.com/Amazon - [This is an Indian portal where u can shop for anything from around the world & pay in Rupees - customs duties etc are included].

See my thread "46" or 47" LED TV....Help, is LG47LE4600 Good. for my confusion & getting :mad:

NOTE: For TV's - LED/Plasma - The best models [which are either not launched here in India or INSANELY PRICED] are available at down-to-earth prices - even after paying customs. Features like THX certified panels; Ultra-Slim; Energy efficient; Brilliant Contrast Ratios; USB playback for HDD [fat/ntsc] upto 4 TB. etc...All to make a real cinema experience are the norm in US & UK.

BUT We are getting ripped & raped here in India and can hardly do anything much except ...... Shopyourworld.com/Amazon..... is this our gateway to paradise or a trip to Hell.

1] Any one who has bought anything over 25K from this portal - share ur experiences...be it cameras/audio equip/comps/TV's ?
2] Are the lowest quotes credible [eg. LG47LE8500 available from 72K to 1.1 lac]?
3] Is an international warranty honoured here ?
4] Is "Express delivery" reliable over "Priority" ?
5] In case of TV's - are wall mounts included or we hv 2 buy it separately?
6] Does delivery actually happen in the said time [I live in Mumbai]
7] Is returning a defective piece easy or a nightmare?
8] Are local guyz available for installation [company authorised]
9] For TV's - from US - any voltage/ntsc/compatibility issues?

Thanks to "hifivision" and all u guyz & gals out here who make all the difference.... PLEASE SHARE & HELP US ALL

Thanks for these links...... Sheesh..... It's getting scary:mad:

I bought Sony Blu Ray BDP-S570 from Shopyourworld.com from Best Buy. I had sent it as a Gift so I dint have to pay Customs duty. I ordered it on 14th Dec 2010 and they promised delivery on 24th Dec 2010. But unfortunately, there was wearhousing problem with Best Buy and delays in flights (due to snow) and I eventually got my product on 5th Jan 2011.

But all through the customer service was amazing in giving me updates and very sincere. They made sure I was updated of the status.

I'll definitely buy from them again!

I would second that. I ordered a pair of speaker stands from Amazon UK. They did not answer e-mails but whenever I called them, I always got very helpful people who wanted to (and could) solve problems. They always called back when they said they would (a rarity in India). I would buy from them again.

Thanks to both you guys. Just a few questions
@anand
Sony Bluray player - shipped as "gift" - How did u manage it? [their site lists purchases upto Rs.10K qualify as gifts]!
Did u buy new or used one? Was the cost less than Rs.10000/- A new one costs starts from Rs11K !!!!!!

Elsewhere I came across this aspect [gift] as being a "gimmick" to entice customers by SYW & both parties escape the "duties" regimen. Now I am happy with that part if it's legal.

What about "SHIPPING COSTS" - Again their site tells very clearly [b4 u enter amazon & later on]... that value is calculated ONLY UPTO 5 Kgs!! What happens to the rest of the WEIGHT.... The TV I am interested in ships at roughly 35 Kgs. DO I END UP PAYING THE DIFFERENCE OF 30 kgs at my doorstep & the money pocketed by SYW ??????

I think maybe they calculate shipping charges based on weight upto 5kgs. Anything in excess they probably calculate shipping charges based on volumetric measurements.
Just hazarding a guess!!!

let me quote from their site

"All prices shown at the Merchants site includes Product Price + Shipping & Handling charges + Insurance.*
Custom Duties, Taxes and Processing Charges are shown in the Shopping Cart and will only be added when you proceed to checkout. The total amount shown at checkout will be your Fixed Landed Price (FLP).*

The Fixed Landed Price (FLP) includes shipping costs for weight up to 5kg's per item and is calculated on volumetric weight or dead weight, whichever is higher.*

So what happens if your product exceeds 5 kgs ................ ANYBODY OUT HERE HAS A CLUE ??????

quote again

For eligibility of Duty Free Gifts, the amount of each item cannot exceed Rs. 10,000.

Well, Sony BDP-S570 was on sale for Xmas. SYW price was Rs.7980 (incl a 5% discount for HDFC CC). So the price was well within Rs.10K for me to order it as a gift. That's the reason I bought it from SYW. In India Sony BDP-S370 costs Rs.9,990 (which is absurd).

Yes, it is legal.

Thats correct. The weight of the Blu Ray player I got is less than 5Kgs, so it worked for me. However, if the product is more than 5 Kgs, then you have to pay for the additional weight. The way I'd recommend you work it is, after selecting your product, chat with the customer service (there is a chat option on their website). Give them the product URL and ask them how much shipping cost they would charge extra for that product and they'll be happy to tell you that. Then you can make a buying decision.

The way it works is you'll have to pay for the product (the price listed on the website) and then you'll get an email or phone call asking you to pay the additional amt for shipping (if its more than 5kgs). This additional amount is not listed on the website - they'll check with their logistics and tell you that.

Also remember that the 5kg weight is not the absolute weight. It's volumetric weight (as used by airlines for cargo weight) or absolute weight (whichever is higher).

Here's an explanation from SYW FAQs:

What is 'volumetric weight'?
'Volumetric weight' is used in the airline industry to calculate the amount of space an item will require in an aircraft versus its dead (or actual) weight. Compare the 'volumetric' weight with the dead (or actual) weight. Shipping will be charged on the basis of the heavier of the two weights.
For example, a delivery can have a 1kg dead (or actual) weight, but the dimensions of the delivery are 14 x 12 x 6 inches:

* 14 x 12 x 6 inches multiplied together = 1008
* 1008 divided by 305 = 3.30kg volumetric weight
* The shipping charge will be based on the volumetric weight of 3.30kg, not the 1kg dead weight.

So ALWAYS chat with the customer service before you place the order on what the actual cost is going to be - that way you can avoid surprises for yourself later!
