Hi,

Preferences:

* 47-55 Inch Tv
* UHD
* Absolutely no to 3D
* Smart TV is good to have or need to attach chrome cast which I don't want to

At Max budget 1.2L can't stretch more than that.

please let me know best TV for my requirement. Suggest me good home theatre setup along with that :D

Just asking: Why absolutely no to 3D?
Its seen that 3D panels are of generally higher quality than 2D.
And if you don't want to see 3D you can just watch normal 2D in a 3D tv.

Thanks for starting this thread Nitin. I'm hoping the experts share their thoughts as I'm interested in buying a TV with that feature-set in the quoted price range.

Any thoughts on Sony's KDL-50W800B ?

I have done quite a bit of research in this size range and even i had shortlisted the Sony Kdl50w800b .. However this tv is out of stock at most places , the only place it is available is on snapdeal , but the seller is not Sony Authorised so i dont know if it would be worth the risk.

The other option is the Samsung 48H6400 or the 55H6400.

what's the point in paying 30K more if I don't use that feature. :-/

To put it more clear, Active 3D Panels cannot run @ 50 Hz Native refresh rate. So 3D panels by default have higher refresh rate. You pay more for the panel with high refresh rate.

UHD or HD ,both will look more or less the same when looking from 10 feet as you cannot resolve the individual pixels from that distance.

But what you can really differentiate is the refresh rate. You will find a lot of difference when viewing panning scenes and action scenes in a 50/60 Hz, 100/120 and 200/240 Hz Native refresh rate panel. The bigger the panel ,the more pronounced will be the motion stutter for a Native 50 Hz panel. So 200 Hz panel better than 100 Hz and so on.

I am yet to see a 200 Hz Native panel without 3D:p So that is just an add on what you get for Good quality motion resolution.

Your preference is very basic. Size is ok to start with, but you have to mention what kind of content consumption the Tv will be used for ?

Like
  1. HD
  2. UHD
  3. SD
  4. action
  5. Serials
  6. Gaming ???

Like gaming needs special mention because the Display and Input Lag needs to be minimal for display used for Gaming.

Whether you need wide viewing angles or better contrast when sitting straight ?

The 800B does seem out of stock, hence I was looking at the 900B. Is the Samsung 6400 series better than the Sony 900B ?

80% of TV Regional channels. few are HD and few are not.
20% of High quality movies/video streaming

Gaming I might say 1% if i purchase Xbox, which I am not even planning as of now.
However refresh rate below 100Hz is seriously out of contest

The 900b has an IPS display , which has lower Picture Quality but better Viewing angles, also i havent found any decent reviews for this tv because it seems like an India specific Tv. The H6400 has a VA panel which has better picture quality but limited viewing angles.

I found a good website for all this , they seem very thorough with all their research and testing. Rtings.com - TV Reviews - Best TV Recommendations , you should definitely check it out.

Also, You're from Pune right, so call up the Sony center on JM Road, they have one piece ( 50w800b ) in stock but it's a display piece.
