Dear fellow members

this is my first experience in this complex hifi world and I am totally confused. Primarily due to my lack of knowledge. I have a max budget of Rs.80000 for a complete set including AVR, Speaker set and subwoofer.
I have a living room with size 20*12 ft with TV and sitting located on longer side of the room. The viewing distance is 17 ft and thats where a confusion is starting.
I demoed bose and found to be not adequate and good enough. The JBL person confused me by telling me that a smaller speaker package will not be adequte for my room size and i should go for seperates like floorstanders and a pwoerful enough AVR.

I have been reading a lot on Wharfedale DX1 and that was my choice but for such a viewing distance will that speaker system along with denon x1000 be enough or I really need to go for floorstanders and a large woofer?

i don't want to get disappointed after shelling out 70-80K.

Please provide your experiences and help with some package references. That will really help me to take a quick decision. I want to take decision in a month's time.

Hi dear Yogesh...

I have room area little small 15 by 12...I Purchased FS+Center+BS for
Surround+subwoofer..This is most ideal for both Stereo Music+Movies...
Now your room little bigger you will need above setup for better sound quality as suggested by jbl person..If you are into Music also than you should go for
above setup... All this depends on your budget..

Denon x-1000 is Realy good Avr ....
You can first go with FS+Center than add sub & Surround when your budget permits..
I just bought (15 days back) Denon X-1000 with Dali Zensor 7 5.1 pkg.. but after lots of research i confused,& bought yesterday again new Denon X-2000 For better & more power sound quality & performance for my room size.

My both Avr still box pack & today co's engineer will come for demo than i will able to decide which Avr suits better in my room & setup..Other model( mostly Denon x-1000) i will wish to sale..
Both Avr is very good & with bill/warrenty..so if you are interested In
Denon X-1000 than personal mail me for details...

Regards

Yes as indicated by JBL person you will need an AVR and Floor standers.Rs80,000 is a good budget to set up a budget 5.1 system.
However it is not sufficient if you are planning stereo music also, in which case you need better fronts and an additional stereo amp.

My other query is on your seating position - you mentioned 17 feet as your viewing distance. Please note that for HD your viewing distance should be max 2 to 2.5 times your TV size to appreciate the full HD clarity

One of the reasons why the JBL person told you that satellite speakers might not be good for your room size is that Sat speakers are always low on efficiency/sensitivity... So for the sound to reach a distance of 17 feet, you can choose satellite speakers with highest sensitivity....

When you are looking for any speakers, look for the main specification - db (Decibels)

If the primary purpose is for movie listening, then a satellite speakers + Sub combo makes perfect sense....

If you like to strike a balance between stereo & movies with your AVR, you can choose BS + Sub combo which can do the job pretty well...

Hi

Thanks for the inputs. My requirement is 100% movies. I do not listen to music at all. To start with its all movies and later it should cater to gaming as well (may be 2 years down the line) but definitely I do not want to take decision for music. Whatever my movie system will give me output thats fine for music.

I have a 46 inch LED TV. Considering the viewing distance it feels little smaller but can't help. I had done my furniture 6 years ago and i have a big wardrobe on the smaller end of the rectangualr rom with no chance for wall mounting TV. Hence did not have an option to go for the longer end of the room. The TV is wall mounted and the sofa is on the other side of the room. I do not have space for large floorstanders also.

Please help suggesting some good configuartions for my requirement.

So for 100% movies, you don't need a FS... (You saved lot of money :ohyeah:)

I would suggest Sonodyne Avant range of speakers - 4 pieces of Avant LCR 150, 1 piece of Avant LCR 250... which would apporx work up to 50K.... These speakers have the highest sensitivity/efficiency around 90db & easy to drive for any AVR with modest power ratings....

What would be your source for movies ?

anyone has any inputs on below combination

QUAD Liteplus with Denon 1000

I had a demo of this combination at designer audio last week and it was simply mind blowing. I am almost convinced to buy this combination though it is on quite higher side on budget. they are quoting 110000 along with reciever and wall brackets.

I reviewed Wharfedale MS-100 with Yamaha, Quad Liteplus with denon 1910 and AAD IQ 5.1 with Yamaha.
Quad was way way superior in these three packages.

would really appreciate your inputs on Quad Liteplus with denon 1000 combo at Rs. 110000.

I have a living room hall of 12 ft X 36 ft. Am planning to set up a home theatre.
My viewing distance will be 14 ft. What kind of system will be suitable for this room.

My purpose is 100% movies. my budget is around 1.5L for speakers

I read a lot of FS vs BS recommendation on this site. IMO, its a vague generalization and pointless. A floorstander speaker is assumed to have a decent bass performance so that one wouldn't need a subwoofer. While this may work for music, for movies it won't. Reality is - a subwoofer beats a floorstander any day. It has more output without a doubt, but also has the flexibility to be placed where it sounds best. A floorstander cannot be placed anywhere in the room. What's worse is - there are some bookshelf which even beat a floorstander speaker in output alone. But on this site, the recommendation for more bass output is - Floorstander. I mean, its a simple speaker, why does it matter if its a floorstander or bookshelf? Can someone explain?

Anyway - back to OP. you have a decent big size room. You will be better served with 7.1 layout with multiple subwoofers, if you can afford. I have a 13 x20 room. Problem with 5.1 is that, you get sound either infront of you or behind you. 7.1 will put speakers at your side and will give you enveloping experience. You don't have to buy all right now - but you can build your system slowly knowing that's your ultimate aim. If budget is concern, I would start with very good Left, center, right speakers. Then matching surrounds (2 at first, then 4 to complete 7 speakers) and sub-woofers.
