No list is ever going to please everyone because ultimately every list is the subjective opinion of a small group of people. The big four on the R'n'R Hall of Fame list are on expected lines. Beatles/Elvis Presley with 7 listings, Rolling Stones with 6 and Bob Dylan with 5. The biggest omission is Nina Simone whose complete body of work is truly incredible. Even the great Louis Armstrong is distinctly under-represented with only one song. "Mac The Knife" and "Hello Dolly" should be automatic choices in any list. Phil Ochs and Marianne Faithfull are also missing from the list.

I believe Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd set the stage in mid 60s for the rock bands later to follow.

I was about to slam my monitor seeing Led Zep and MJ in the same list.

Somebody or a group went high enough to scribble down these 500 track names. LOL.

OMG how people are too serious On This topic. Even is use to refer the Online to pick the best Music and i think they are the best.

First we need to understand that Every person has unique taste and there is no necessity to know the exact difference between Genre of music, to Love music.

I understand that The list was not authorized and finalized and caved , Just gives personal opinion.
I bet even if someone from the Greatest Rock band going to give top TEN Rock songs, somebody would oppose it.

Take it Lite, If some one dont know let us add our suggestion to it instead of commenting.

Instead of saying what damm "x" songs are there is the list, could be given as "X" does better IMHO.

Come one we grown matured

I used to feel the same way but then started discovering how good Michael Jackson really was.

Check out this cover version by cold play.

Tell me if this is not close to a perfect song in terms of composition, melody, rhythm, and even the superb lyrics.

He got a bad rep because he invented pop, yes, but pop is just short for popular. Nothing excludes rock and roll from being pop. Plus how many African american singers do you know anyway that have been able to merge so many genres and make it their own? Maybe Lenny kravitz and a few others??
