Hi friends... this is *not* my shop, this is *not* any promotional message.

But past many months, I have been buying LP records from this shop, and the experience has been VERY GOOD. Thought I will share it with all LP lovers here. Thought that more people buy from him, he will also continue selling LP's and not close shop ever.

This is New Gramophone House in Delhi.

I have been buying it online. Every time the records come ON TIME, NEATLY & TIGHTLY PACKED, and GOOD QUALITY.

The website is :

New Gramaphone House (Since 1930), Vinyl Records, LP Records, Bollywood Vinyl Records, Hindi Vinyl Records, Punjabi Vinyl Records, Indian Vinyl Records

I have bought lots of stuff from them over the years. Was not aware of the recent price hike...most of the stuff used to be in the affordable range. mostly the quality is decent...you can find some really rare titles and some in really good shape but you'd have to look hard for it...the collection of old bollywood is quite large as opposed to western...will be making my customary trip to them during my visit to Delhi...

They have a decent collection indeed but their pricing has kept me away from peeping too much into their website. I have mentioned it somewhere earlier in the forum, but not out of context here to quote that I purchased Dil hai ki manta nahin and Aashiqui LPs from him/ them. Both were 2 LP sets. Price was 1200/- per album:eek::eek: So total damages were Rs. 2400/-. I paid that much as I was looking for these albums & could not find elsewhere. BUT after paying 600/- per LP (600 X 4 LPs), I expect LPs to be in mint condition, which unfortunately was not the case. Both LPs were fairly used with names of previous owners written on them! IT was a big turn off as I did not expect used LPs priced so heavily!

Then I took a look at other sections like spares & turntables. Was shocked to see that how overpriced everything was. For eg. The Audio Technica LP-120 is priced @ INR 35,000/-:eek::eek: Just to give an idea!

However, I will maintain that they have a huge collection and they are decent otherwise while dealing. Their shipping is fast too. I think they will have a better market if they price the items more reasonably.

Regards.

Hmmmm.... at least 600 bucks for an English record. Not worth it. Very, very pricey. Will have to first win at least small fortune in a lottery :)

They weren't so expensive...150...300 tops...looks like they've caught on to the Vinyl resurgence and are out to kill it :(

I agree with my fellow HFVians....

Way too expensive

I still like the old school approach of really trying hard to get LPs from friends and families and true collectors.

I had purchased Dil hai ki manta nahin for Rs 85 in the year 2004 from same shop that is Anuj Rajpal of New gramophone house. Copy was unused (mint) and i picked up 3 copies at that time. He has increased his price since then. The trouble with these Indian sellers is once any foreigner pays up $20 plus for any record they never look back and hope to sell at same price to indian buyers.

For english records, i think rs 600 is OK for Boney-M numbers if record is mint and pressed abroad. I had also purchsed one UB40 record for Rs 500 few years ago and i was very dissapointed with the condition, grooves were badly damaged due to use of heavily worn out stylus and it plays with constant grinding like sound.

Just six months ago they were selling it for Rs 20,000.

New hindi vinyls on flipkart show prices as much as 1299/-:eek: 1300 bucks for an LP?? They are out to kill it.

I would any day prefer to shop records at streets of Kolkata. This is the place from where I have acquired most of my vinyl collection and have got some literally 'mint' condition records. I got copies of some Boney M albums, hindi film- Sagar, Lata Mangeshkar live at Royal Albert Hall, Lata's tribute to Mukesh (1976-USA/Canada tour)...and I doubt these records were even played once! And I am serious when I make this statement. Literally these records were shining like new pennies! I remember that I did not pay anything more than 200-250 for these records. I paid Rs. 150/- for Sagar!

I hope that these guys in Kolkata have not caught this fever of hiking vinyl price to unreasonable levels. After all, its a poor man's vinyl shopping place like me!:)

I second that... I had a good amazing experience shopping in the streets of Calcutta.

Waiting for my next trip to be there..

Just yesterday I was at ChorBazar , Mumbai. The seller was candid enough to say till about 3/4 years back these LPs were hardly in demand and were getting sold for peabuts. Now a days because of internet and bacause of all the hype created about the 'good old vinyls' they have come in super demand. Demand - supply ratio has reversed and the consequence is high rates of the LPs. In his words 'main paisa kamane ke liye baitha hoon, agar koi 400/500 rs deta hain to main kyon na loon ? '...Like I found a rare 'Voice of 82 record comprising music scores related to 82 asiad in a gate fold near mint folder condition and he told me he can very wel sell that for 1000 rs.....I doubt if Kolkata is still that cheap ? May be for some 'not in demand' titles its still cheap but for 'in demand' titles it has got into the bandwagon of steep price rise.

Absoultely right. Their knowledge is increasing day by day and now they know money in record business is not limited to Beatles and R D Burman.:D

This shop selling stuff in high price.try olx u guys get lp record in around 100 rs and also get shure after market diamond stylus in around 700 rupees from ebay.com

Yes I too have bought some records online from them. but recently they have changed their site and hiked the prices too much making them a pain to buy.

I agree, I have purchased few vinyl few months back, all were within 100/ to 250/-. But now they don't have any vinyl below 600/-

I guess it is because they think that now they have sufficient customers or they can sell their vinyls at any price.

I buy Lps from FM sureshkuranjalayil at reasonable price.Quality is also good. You can send him a PM for Lps.

Regards,
Sachin
