Hello All,

I am planning for a new home theater setup for the hall in our apt. Its a 16ftx14.5ft area.
I plan to have a 50-55" LED so that the view is lengthwise taking advantage of the length of the place.

1. If I go for a new DVD/Blu Ray + Audio system and a Amp. what brand should I look out for to shortlist from

2. Can I have a scalable SETUP, to help me have audio output in the master bedroom and the balcony sitting area? Any solution how I can control the song selection etc from the master bedroom (especially)? the balcony is adjacent to the hall, so that wouldn't be a issue.

My budget is around 1-1.5L (only for the AVR and Speakers setup) LED will be additional

Look forward to your suggestions and advise.

You may consider Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha brands for AVRs.
There are lot of brands for speakers. Many threads here have this info and you can get your queries answered.

For your 2nd question, if I understand correctly, you want the same audio output to be in Bedroom and Balcony. A seperate stereo setup with Bookshelves will be ideal.

Denon AVRs are good

For an extension to other area from same A/V you will need a 7.1 Channel Models where you can consume 5.1 in main room and additional 2 channels could be used for other area. Even these 2 additional channels could be amplified with same A/V Receiver.

To keep things unders budget you want to start with AV Receiver + 2 Floor Standers + Sub Woofer + Blu Ray Disk Player and Bookshelf for other room/area. Later you can add surround for main Room.

Other components to consider is a Media Player/HTPC

Hi,

Answer for Q (1) : Th brand of AVR or Amp (If thats what you mean..) matters a lot on what do you want/requirements.. The Area is a 16x14.5 ft and looking at your post it seems you are more interested in movies..so I ll share with you whatever amateurish knowledge I have...For that sized room and taking that the height is not uniquely exceeding 10-12 ft If you want a component set of speakers or a NON HTIB (Home theater in a Box)set there are varied numbers of those even.. but the combination depends on a few of factors..I ll start by pointing out a couple of em.

1. The AVR should match the speakers....(Some speakers are bass heavy .. some are musical some are warm and some bright also some are neutral..)

2. The AVR should be able to drive the speakers dynamically atleast ie you cannot go on to buy a sweet high end speaker package and get a puny low end AVR

3. The Centre speaker should be a sonic match with the fronts (If you are going for component based speakers...).. Generally the same make is preferred.

For your Question (2)

To begin with, for the scalability there is always a Zone option provided in AVRs of the Higher order.. like in Yamaha , Denon , Marantz , Onkyo . Also realize that some of these will be way too expensive ie the AVR themselves cost about 1 Lac or more.. so the next step would be to chose as per your requirement..(Either features rich model/maker or the ones more performance oriented..)...

Well I guess this is a start of a beautiful build :D ../ hope you get your solutions and your setup ready with most satisfactory result albeit not so swift.. :) Congrats for entering in to te bea~youtiful world of sound & music..

Thanks a lot Siva, Ankit & Rud3dawg....

I have to go for a complete setup right on Day 1 as the wiring in the new home will be done internally and I cant have work happening later on after we move in.

Going by the logic of 5.1 and 2 outputs in the bedroom I also wanted to have atleast 1 speaker (or does it have to be a pair always??) in the balcony as well...

If budget is not a criteria, can you recommend what brand should I go for?

I also read that some AVR support WiFi, so the system can be managed by an App on Android Phone or iPad.

I had a Bose LifeStyle 28 all this while (since 2001) and so hopefully having the smallest of speakers in this new setup may not be possible .. or can I still get really small speakers?

Please suggest what brand and model of AVR, Speakers & SubWoofer. Iwill also need a Blu Ray player..
