Hi all,

I was fortunate to inherent a 3 piece Accuphase sound system from my uncle a few years bag.

The system consists of the following:

Accuphase precision compact disc player DP-70
Accuphase stereo preamplifier C202
Accuphase stereo power amplifier P-102
Speaker is a prosound 400 watt (currently only one speaker connected)

I am not that knowledgeable about high end sound systems so bare with me. However there is a problem with the stereo power amplifier. When you switch the unit on the unit lights up and then after around 6 seconds a red light is meant to light up and the amplifier kicks in. However the lights often only lights up for a second or two and you can hear the system "cutting out" other times it may play for a little while and then trip out. I have no idea what is causing this, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ollie

I'm not sure if ur pwr amp is SS or tube. Looks like the spkr terminals are shorting. If SS, try disconnecting the spkr & them switch on the amp. If it doesn't cut off, them the spkr or the cable is the prob. If it still cuts off, then the prob is in the pwr amp. If tube pwr amp, do not switch on w/o load; try with boy other spkr or/& cable

This typically means either that the load on the amp is too much and its shutting itself off or there is a short somewhere causing it to trip.

Also as the other poster mentioned, if you are using powered speakers then you dont need an amp over it.

Have you tried with other speakers by any chance (not car speakers just to be sure :) )

Hi
You have some classic electronics that are pretty pricey so handle with care!!!
As Square wave mentioned if that is the speaker that u are pairing then it DOES NOT NEED A POWER AMP. It has its own INBUILT amplification and you just send a signal from your PREAMP directly into it via XLR cables.
With these inherited beauties you would be best suited to buy a sweet book shelf for a good HIFI set up.
