I bought 3D glassess from one person. Seems that 3D glassess was used to watch 3D movies in theatre.

I have Panasonic Th-p50ut30m model that 3D glassess are not working on my TV.

But same are working on LG tv.

is it a difference of ACTIVE and PASSIVE 3D.

Your thread title is deceptive; recommend you make it more specific. And yes, it sounds like you have been sold passive 3D glasses for an active 3D TV. It's a classic flea market trick I have been a victim to many a times. Humble opinion; always buy brand manufactured accessories.

This is really weird. Since you already own the Panasonic TV, you should be aware of what kind of 3D glasses work with it, and the difference between active and passive 3D TV glasses. I am also skeptical as to how a theater standard 3D glass will work on a 3D TV - I don't think it is possible.

LG uses active glasses for its plasma line and passive glasses for the led line of 3D TVs.

There are actually two types of technologies in the active line. Previously the glasses used to communicate using infra red technology and nowdays they use bluetooth for the same.

Maybe the glasses work across brands but I have not experimented with the same and am not sure.

can anybody explain the difference between active and passive 3d glasses ... what is actual difference in technology.... what drives passive and what drives active..
and how they work..

LG in its LEd TV uses passive 3D. So the theatre glasses work on it as theatre set up are passive. Simple difference between Active and Passive 3D : Active 3D the Glasses do the Left and Right Shuttering and In Passive 3D the Polarised Filters attached to the Projectors do the shuttering (In theatres) and the glasses are ordinary.

You will perhaps get better answer from Wikipedia and Google. projectorguru has already answered. To add to that:

In active 3D, the picture on TV is present full frame (1920x1080) with alternate frame (for each eye) in quick succession. The user has to put on Active 3d shutter glasses to view the 3D. The glasses have an LCD shutter that opens and closes with the same frequency as that on the TV. The LCD shutter is operated by a battery in the 3D glasses. The sync between TV frame and glasses is via Infra Red (older technology) or Bluetooth/RF (new technology). The advantage of active 3D is that it presents full HD (1920x1080) 3D picture. The disadvantage is that these 3D glasses need to be powered by batteries (rechargeable or button-cells) and if the sync is impaired/lost then this results into ghosting and upto complete loss of 3D. In practice this rarely happens though people with very sensitive eyes do report ghosting.

In passive 3D TV, the picture is divided into (sort of) half-frames (1920x540) and presented in a polarized manner to each eye. But the picture is simultaneously cast. The user has to wear 3d glasses that have polarzied glass and each eye sees the half frame meant for each eye. The advantage is that there are no batteries, glasses are half as cheap and almost no ghosting. Some people claim to see ghosting here also. The disadvantage is that the 3D picture is not full HD.

There's a world of difference between the make of active and passive 3D glasses. Difficult to imagine you fell for it..
