Advise : Which 3D TV to buy

Also the availability of 3D content is very very limited as of now. This is not going to change very soon. So think again before you proceed further.

want to buy a 46' 3D TV. Confused after looking at Sony, samsung and LG.. pls advise

Check out the Sony HX800. They are offering a lot of "free" stuff along with it. Plus, it's 2D performance is reportedly good.

Personally, I find the new Samsung stands (on their 3D tv's) ugly as heck. Also, the Panasonic and perhaps the LG TV's (double check this) don't have 2D to 3D conversion. Only Samsung and Sony do AFAIK.

I disagree on comments suggesting to wait for some more time.

If you can afford a 3D TV now, you should go ahead and buy, I am sure you would enjoy a new technology much better in the early days. I am sure you would be spending more but you would also enjoy more and at the same time guys like are the drivers of innovation.

So you need to decide which has more value: the (more) money that you would be spending or the 3D enjoyment especially being an early adopter. Just to mention, I had more enjoyment when I was using the 1st generation iPhone, there were many heads turning at my first iPhone compared to my iPhone 3GS today.

And to answer your query, you should be looking at Panasonic VT20 series as well.

Totally agree. The 40" HX800 sells at 118k and comes with freebies worth almost 65k!!!

The PQ was substantially good for SD (Tata Sky) and terrific for HD.

If you are eyeing a decent 40 incher 3D this Diwali, there is no comparable offer!

Good Luck,
Pannags

Vijay:)

cant believe ppl are mad for 3d tv
Even though i too bought the Samsung 3D tv, I did not buy it for the 3D. I was initially planning to go for the LED 40C6900 which has MRP of 1.09L which I think would have got for around 1L or 0.95L. To top it, I had to buy a blu ray player which would easily cost around 12-14k bringing my total cost to 1.1L. Samsung LED 40C7000 which is 3D model was around 1.2L (1.3MRP) but the package along with it was a C5500 blu ray player (non 3D) and 1 goggle. Sony had a similar or better package but that was LCD (HX800) but came along with 2 goggles, sound bar and better compilation of 3D titles.

40" is a kind of go between size. Its not too big to upgrade immediately and not too small to miss out the pleasure of viewing HD. When I cam to know that even the 46C750 was being priced similarly, it made more financial sense from a long term perspective to buy the 46C750 which is a top of the line LCD model in Samsung which has excellent picture quality. So for almost the same price, I got a bigger TV which I don't have to upgrade in 3-4 years ( or until it fails), a 3D blu ray player C6900, 3 goggles, wifi-n adapter(which I intend to use) along with the HDMI cable. I got the Airtel HD TV set top box additionally for a total of 1.2. Might be I could have bargained for a bit more, but I am not good at that :(

Anyway, I was getting this whole thing through the 0% - 22 month financing. So I could not ask for more and I am satisfied with the package that I have purchased.

I definitely agree that in a year or so the prices will come down. But its a matter of timing for me. I can keep waiting and latest models with better features will keep on popping up. 3D will be more refined in the time to come and so on.

Thanks

The Sony is actually not too good a deal. The Samsung 46C750 is 110k
with a BR 3D player, 3 glasses and a few 3D titles is a better offer.
Out of stock till yesterday though.

3D requires max screen size possible and a 46 is significantly bigger than
a 40 in.

In terms of usable 3D probably the Panny is best since crosstalk is an issue
with current LCD screens. But it is 163k without any offers (just one set of glasses)

The freebies is only one part ,the main thing about the HX800 is its a limited local dimming set.Crosstalk is also slightly less in the Sony compared to the samsung.

I think one should wait for sometime before 3D technology gets maturity level.
BTW, i had a chance to have a look at sony 3D TV. experience was truly amazing..

Limited local dimming is actually more of a marketing gimmick in the first gen.
Look at all the reviews. I design systems with edge lit LEDS (10 in and below) and
light uniformity is an issue. Cross talk may be slightly better by 46 in trumps 40 in any day,
It is a significant area size increase. At 40 in even 720p vs 1080p can be tough to make out if 720p encoding is good.

Its not a marketing gimming certain zones can be dimmed.

EX700 on left and HX800 on right .both are at off axis with EX700 being way off axis, which will exaggerate the difference.

The same kind of dimming system is also there in the high end samsung like 8 & 9 series.
