Hello guys,

I just got myself a brand new 40' Sony Bravia LCD and now I want to hook it up to a Blu-ray player but the catch is I want a BRP that'll play .MKV format files of the USB port, all TV shows and movies of .MKV are usually under 800mb in size and and also have WiFi functionality so that I can stream YouTube etc. wirelessly right to my LCD. My budget is somewhere around 10000, I can extend another 2000-3000 extra

Go for Sony BD S370. Its under 10k and has all the capabilities you are looking for.

Thanks but I've heard that it doesn't play MKV files smaller than 4gb or is it the other way around. and does it have WiFi facility for streaming YouTube. My research doesn't speak about any wireless connectivity

It can play files SMALLER than 4GB. This is because of the limitation of the file size of the FAT32 file system, which is what the BD player recognizes. So you'll have to format your pen drive in the FAT32 file system. NTFS will most likely not be supported.

As for Wi-Fi, I think I'd read a Wi-Fi USB dongle is available as an accessory for the BDP-S370

OK, I saw the WiFi dongle and what a rip off it is. Priced at almost Rs.4000/-, not at all interested. Anything else available?

Philips BDP3406

Region unlockable

Looks like it is unlockable only for DVD. Any BD region hack?
A pretty good deal, nevertheless.

I havent seen too many players with an unlocked Blu-ray region. BTW, currently buying all Blu-ray via Amazon UK.

Free shipping to India, no UK VAT, no customs on orders over 25 pound.

Most of Blu-ray sold in Amazon UK is not locked to any region.

Same question: Can we crack the region code for BluRay. I understand that most of the BDs are region free, but still dont want to take a chance.

And any idea what would be the landing cost in India from Amazon. Player looks good.

Thanks

For your requirement BluRay player is not enough ... what u need is a computer connected to your TV thru HDMI cable.... i have connected my Samsung 40" TV to my computer via HDMI to my Graphic Card ... the card should have a mini HDMI port ... my card is Nvidia GTX 460 or something like that ... this should be a better solution ... bcoz ur TV virtually becomes the Monitor ...

If the player support UPnP over wifi or ethernet then this limitation goes away, the same limitatrion of FAT32 is there in my PS3 but over UPnP over my home network either from my NAS DNS323 or from any of my Windows 7 PCs the PS3 can playback > 4GB files over UPnP.
