The format is for 6 small 15 ml samples gievn to each attendee for blind tasting in 6 different glasses with all of us to write down our comments on each- hold it up and look at it,nose it, swirl it, spit it our or swallow it, neat, with water drunk after each sample to clean the palate. After all the samples are tasted each will be unmasked and we will all find out which sample is which brand.

This will be followed by unlimited "pourings" of Amrut and a late drive back. I'm going with driver and friends to derive maximum fun..

How? How do i get your life :) (picture Will Smith asking the Ferrari driver in Pursuit of...)
Seriously, books, music, movies and now this..... you are living the life i want to live 10 years from now :)
Have fun

I had attended a similar session conducted by Johnnie Walker, the host was MC Mark Rego... a fine session about Scotch Whiskey.

Where is this and how do I go?

damn I'm jealous!!

quick question - is Amrut easily available in bangalore now?? I've never been able to spot one in any shop in India .. did try one from the duty free and totally loved it!! :)

Unfortunately this is a members only event, invitees are not allowed. I buy from Cyberwines off Lavelle Road opp Coffee Day.They usually have it in stock most of the time.

sash: You and I will connect up at Mysore when I am there in a couple of weeks playing golf at the JW Golf Club. I've served my time and paid my dues so I guess I can do somethings before I go to meet the Big Man Up There, right?

Hey George sir, how lucky!!

I wish they conduct their testing sessions at fauji clubs too. That's where the market is. When do they understand!

So what are the other brands? or is it different types of Amrut? My favorite is fusion, but I have yet to taste the high malt version ( not sure what it is called). Anyways enjoy, it is an excellent whisky.
Cheers,
Sid

Oh my god :) You're really young at heart and I called you "mate". I'm 29 :P I thought you might be 34-35 and I'm glad that I called you "mate" coz you really are young at the heart and you never made me feel otherwise:)

Ok here's a summary:

Six 15 ml samples numbered 1-6 were poured and placed on a special preprinted paper sheet with numbered slots on a table with plenty of bottled water. We were given a comment sheet with tables for each numbered sample. The initial presentation was about the Amrut journey into SM and then the session started. The parameters that we had to assess were Nose(smell), taste, balance (how the taste and smell combined)and finish(aftertaste). Each sample was neat, they said barring the US in most countries people dont add ice, if you wanted you could add a bit of water-maybe 1:1 or maybe just a little more.If diluted too much the characteristics get difficult to assess. The samples were tasted at leisure with people sharing their views and at the end of about 90 minutes we were done. A poll was taking about preferences with sample No 2 being the popular winner. The bottles marked 1-6 were then revealed. No 2 turned out to be Amrut's Peated and it tasted very similar to Laphroaig. The 6 were Amrut's entry level, their Fusion, their Peated, Macallan, Glenmorangie and Jim Beam.

The Jim Beam tasted quite raw, not as mellow as the others and a few could guess that it could be bourbon. Fusion was quite good, but Peated was the clear winner.

Greedy Angels was a very limited edition run of 144 bottles which got sold out quickly they dont have anything on offer for another 12 months. They are currently selling their SMs in Goa, Bombay, Daman and Diu, and Chandigarh, but supplies are less than demand. There is a new sherry cask aged SM going to be launched around Diwali, which was on offer yesterday, I passed on it. There were some heroes swilling away at the unlimited pourings but I was done with the samples. Quietly walked out with a friend who had come to enjoy the evening and got my driver to drive me back-no cops checked us on our way back.

Any questions?

Cheers

@Georgeo
Seems you enjoyed the session thoroughly!
Was the Jim Beam you had black or white?

Does Cyberwines (off Lavelle Road opp Coffee Day) stock Peated all the time?
Last time I got someone coming via Bengaluru but could not find Peated anywhere.

Jim Beam bottle had a black label IIRS. Raghu is the owner of Cyberwines, PM me if you want his number, all you need to do is call and find out.I may swing by today to pick up some Amrut.
