My usage case, like I believe that at least some others here, doesn’t need smart TV (with all the bells and whistles of the OS) as we are happy using Apple TV or something similar. Moreover, we don’t care for the inbuilt speakers as we’d be connecting to external HT/stereo speakers or at least sound bars.

I also don’t mind SD and HD content not upscaling, I can view it in smaller size and use the full screen just for high res content.

All I need is as good a picture quality as my money can get. That includes natural picture quality - like my old plasma, reasonable viewability in daylight conditions (with curtains pulled), sufficiently deep blacks, true colours and good refresh rate.

I know something like LG OLED C or G series will provide me all the above. But they also make me pay for what I don’t need (mentioned above).

Do you know do any available options that suit the needs of a customer like me? Any suggestions that even come close are welcome. Thanks.

In today's world, 99.9% TVs are " Smart" : a couple of years ago, some manufactures ( Samsung/Panasonic among others) did sell " Display monitors". Ask some large dealer, as some hospitals etc maybe buying in bulk, and you could snag a piece.
What is the screen size you are looking for ?

Monitors are good option if you don’t want the smart features.

Plus they all have lot of pictures adjustment options to make it natural even if the out of the box image is not appealing.

Anything around 55”. Would display monitors have picture quality for movie viewing?

Thanks. Any leads to such dealers would be highly appreciated.

I had asked the same question few years back as I am sick and tired of the smartness...it takes so long to boot...then it goes to home screen...then I have to wait another ten secs before I can change the input to HDMI 1....waste of time..particularly for those using the TV as a dumb display. Unless one is willing to do some research and ask around..we have to live with this unwanted smartness - particularly for 65inch and above

It depends on the TV. I am using the LG Oled for last 5 years but load time is instant.

Frustrating. I have the same issue with the android shit on my hisense tv. The worst part is that the HDMI port selection too has to go through android, else I would have simply connected my apple tv or firestick to the HDMI port. My old 2012 tv doesn't have to go through the smart torture.

If they would sell such things, how will they able to charge premium? Stating Smart features upscales their TVs.

Notice how all the TV ads, feature description only talks about smart features. You have to move mountains to know about FALD zones, Panel Brightness, Upscaling capacity, Panel type, Processor, RAM etc. The reviews are all similarly dumbed down too, google tv, screen mirroring, all the apps, bla bla bla.

Guys, the intention of this thread is not to bash TV companies for their product strategy or explain the reasons why selling smart TVs makes business sense to them. Any specific suggestions on cost-effective TV models that excel at picture image, but are either non-smart or have rudimentary smartness will be highly appreciated.

Sorry, My Bad! 😅

I meant, may be there aren't such products in the market, I would also prefer such product if available with good display quality and reasonable price. We will have limitless upgrades at our disposal via smart box/sticks.

Hi Sachin

Tried to google about dumb TVs, as others suggested first choice is big monitors but they are very costly. Found some info on the internet that its possible to turn off all the smartness of the TV by punching in some key combinations on the remote, that can be shared by the manufacturer if they want to help. Then it pretty much acts like a dumb TV.

Warning: Once its turned dumb it stays dumb forever.

Hope this helps.

Vivek

Good image quality + Cost effective + Non Smart TV = Does not Exist. Even the OLED monitors would be small in size and expensive to buy.

That’s fine. But one has already paid for the smartness and the Dolby audio etc. A barebones TV focused only on picture quality might cost 60%, if not less, in my opinion.

If you can get your hands on this

I had come across Sceptre in my search, but couldn’t find any Indian representation. And it’s not time and cost effective to search for possible sourcing beyond a point.

If that’s true, one wonders if a market opportunity is being missed by TV companies. Not the Samsungs/Sonys/LGs who won’t care for a small segment, but surely by fringe players.

I had a of b7 before my current tv g2 and over the time the b7 started getting problems with wifi. I bought an Apple TV 4K gen 2 and it was much faster than the b7. However the g2 is as fast as one would require and the Apple TV to my eyes has worse image quality than the stock apps on the g2. However the ui of g2 is horrible with ads

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
