Hello all,

Sony UAE has launched 2011 models of LCD lineup.

I have interest in following 2 models.

KDL 40CX520
Internet Tv with X- reality picture engine and live colour tech.
Price 770 USD.

KLV40BX420
HD tv, 2 HDMI. I wonder what is the difference vis-a-vis old KL40BX400.
Price 660 USD.

I would be glad if some one can evaluate both specs wise.
My need is a flat panel TV predominantly for cable TV wala STB reception, movies from Philips DVDP having uscaling.

Will both the TVs have SPVA panel?

I have enough baggage allowance and hence no extra charges except ones at Mumbai airport customs.

Need to know by tuesday hence pls rush your recommendations pls.
I would sure audition and write about my impressions once I do same.

Rgds.

It beats me why people are still thinking of LCD when LED is the better choice. Incidently the price of both models are way too expensive. Push your budget a little more and you can get an excellent 46" or 47" LED TV [LG for example] for less than 70K.

Secondly do NOT bother about "internet or Wi-Fi" ready features - these are useless and you end up paying 10-15% extra - [they are all available on HD-Media Players or Blu-ray players, which you might buy in the near future]. Also remember the Internet features are restricted to JUST 5-9 widgets and unless you have a net connection of 4 MB/s and above - you will never be able to play any streaming videos.

So the choice is now yours.

CX520 should be better. It is replacment for 2010 BX model. You don't get the fancy frills. Motion may not be the best but Sony has history of stable motion handling.

Please note that i have not demoed this TV. I write from past demo experiences. Please do a demo.

Avoid the EX720 series in any size. The 2D is fantastic but 3D is the worst for the price. Just a caution.

LED-LCDs are not always the way to go. High end LCDs at lower prices will compete with most mid-range LED-LCDs. LCDs have lower price benefit. That said Samsung D6600/D7000 are too good. I have seen them in action.

I would say look at the EX720. Granted it has average 3D performance, but you have not mentioned anywhere that you are interested in 3D.
So as a 2D TV it is much better than CX520.

Unless you want to do gaming, then the BX and CX would make sense due to their very low input lag.

Not sure what panel is present in BX420 its mostly a SPVA,but the CX520 has a spva panel it also has better image processing.
If you can afford the ex720 then nothing like it,it one of the better 2d tvs out there.

@terence_fdes
LED tv are nothing but lcd tvs,its only benefits are lower power consumption and slimmer profile.
Only the local dimming backlight based tvs offer significant advantage.

Buy cx520 you wont regret it or if you can stretch your budget then go for ex720. Even ex520 is a very good tv.

Thanks all,

I do have budget for EX720 retailing at 1100 USd with free accessories:
2 3D MOVIES
1 3D DEMO DISC
Game Voucher
2 3D glasses
But since I am not much into TV viewing I am more inclined to find VFM buy.
Nonetheless Is 40inch EX720 good buy at 55k INR with above accessories?

Not now but I am keen to have MS flight ssimulator played on big screen vs on laptop.

So I am more inclined to EX720 now.

BTW, Jumbo UAE has added few more models on their website today.

Can I have feedback on KLV40EX710. It is 100 USD cheaper than EX720 but non 3d.
If panels are all same, then I am more inclined to buy EX720 paying 100USD more having few accessroies free and 3D capable TV.

BUT will its being EDGE LIT LED TV spoil day to day TV, news and movies watching? I can't find if it has truemotion? Where as 710 has truemotion and ambilight sensor (useless) I believe.

Your inputs pls.

HAHA, seems the "E" instead of "C" between "L" and "D" is the way to NIRVANA for you!!!

There is NOTHING as LED TV in the present market so you should first check your facts and comment!

Usually the LED LCD TVs available in the market (those so called slim TVs) are only Edge Lit which may perform WORSE than a proper CFL Backlit models and infact CFL backlight models are sometime brighter than their "LED" counterparts..

Basically I agree that 100Hz or 200Hz models usually perform much better than 60Hz ones and if we find LED backlit good panels with these features, I may not mind going for them if the cost is justified.

I agree with you that the cost difference is narrowed for the LED backlit models and we can go for them, however we should not make the difference of generalizing that LED backlit models are ALWAYS better!

Hi If you can then go for ex720. Its one of my favorite tvs and it wont spoil your day to day tv viewing. It has trumotion which is known as motion flow 200 XR which is 120hz and it even has ambient sensor which is known as light sensor.
Thanks all,

Almost decided to buy40EX720.

Was wondering what is the difference in EX720 and EX710

Is 50k INR good price for EX720 with 2 3D glasses, 2 3d movies 1 3d demo disc etc free?
Can my existing DVP play these titles or do i need another blu ray or something else to make these titles play?

Is there any comparable model from Samsung which can be non 3D but comparable or beeter PQ LED LCD model?

Rgds.

You need to buy a 3d capable blu ray player such as the BDP-480.

The EX710 is a 2010 model and has the older image processing and motionflow system.

Buy ex720. Sony ex720 is the tv i want to buy. Ex710 is an older model. The difference is 3d, new image processor and internet features. I find sony better than samsung.

Ok so done 40EX720. Reaching Duabi on 10th June. Just can't wait to buy it.

A few more questions- yesterday i was looking at Sony's USA website and one sales guy came online asking if I was interested in knowing anything.
When asked about response time he said Sony has a policy of not disclosing the refresh rate.
That was a complete shocker to me, however then I realized not having seen Sony LCDs response time in any of their adverts. So probably he was right. I am just wondering why so?

He also mentioned that this TV comes equipped with 3D trx or whaetever it is called and hence I won't need to buy one unlike other TVs.
What did he mean?

Is this TV capable of turning 2D content into 3D content by some processing?
Also some reviews mention this TV is actually 120Hz refresh rate and hence for 3D only 60Hz. I don't understand why a TV running on 3D mode has half the refrsh rate of its 2D mode?

Pls enlighten.

Rgds.

Last year's Sony TVs usually needed external 3D Infrared sync transmitters.. This is what he meant...

Refresh rates halves in 3D because each eye takes half of the refresh time to display image... so in this case out of the total 120 cycles per second, 60 will be used for left eye and another 60 for right... This happens in all Active SHUTTER glasses based 3D where 3D effect gets generated by blinding one eye while displaying another and vice versa...

In other words, during the first cycle left eye can see the screen and right is blackened by the 3D lens. Same will happen the other way during the second cycle... so effectively each eye will receive only half of the frames possible in 120Hz..

Hi , I was in the market to buy a LCD for my in laws, If USB playback is important then i suggest you take a collection of your files and go there for demo. MKV is a popular format and while comparing USB playback i was told that the 2011 Sony's have more support for formats (like mov ..etc) compared to Samsung. But when i played couple of MKV's i found that while the Video is being played fine, the audio was not being decoded in the Sony sets. the Samsung played them fine.

Will the 2011 Bravia series play MKV Files in proper aspect ratio. If it does then no need to plug in a Media Player to watch HD Movies.

Real users kindly provide input.

Not all 2011 sony plays all formats its only the low end models which play all formats such as BX series , CX420 and the NX520 series.

The CX520, EX42/52/72 ,NX720 and HX72/82/92 series doesn't play MKV.

IMHO its better to invest in a media player, what you should be concerned about is the panel display quality. About aspect ratio it also depend on the person who encoded the MKV, the settings chosen during encoding and the source.
