Hello All,

I was wondering if you all have any recommendations for a good reasonably priced Stereo Tube Amps (or Monoblocks are fine as well) manufactured in India...

I am based in the US but visiting India for a month in Kolkata and was wondering if I can take an amp back to the US as they are ridiculously priced in the US.

Thanks in advance..

Rajiv

If you're looking for a good SET amp, visit Viren of Lyrita Audio, link given by gopib. Send Viren a PM. Close to Kolkatta, he's located in Delhi. Will be extremely well worth a listen. I personally use his SET amp with 45 globe tubes.

regards

I am also a happy Lyrita amp user though the older push pull ones and would really second the others for Viren's SET amp. Chk out his website and drop a mail he responds quickly. Do tie up in advance as it takes some time for him to make/manufacture an amp.

Indian ones are 230v. You will need 120V for US. You need to keep this in mind before buying.

Thanks everyone - I contacted Viren Bakshi from Lyrita since he had commented on his own thread...

And Prem - The 120V is also an issue...I could off course use a step up transformer but I am told they overheat quite a bit...

Anyhow, lets see what Viren says.

Thanks
Rajiv

Rajiv, any particular reason for looking for an 'Indian' make?

I really appreciate you doing that but wont you have tonnes of options back home?

I know a person from Goa. He is Karl Heinz. 9422653052. He says that he makes tube amps costing from rs 7k upwards. I have not visited him anytime or never heard his amps. In fact i have never heard how a tube amp sounds. I am building open baffles. Once they are ready, i will be visitin him and will compare marantz pm6002 with one of his amps.

I know where you are coming from...but I wanted to try and scope the landscape in India and see if I could get something comparable to what i can get in the US but cheaper...

I have asked Viren at Lyrita to send me more detailed specs of his products so I can do an educated comparison

i once read on some foreign forum about how all indian products have a 'measure of brilliance' to them! :-)

If you work & live in the USA , Indian prices will not hurt you.
The best thing in India is a brand called Cadence. Their model Canasya which are mono blocks CAN STAND UP TO ALMOST ANY BRAND IN USA .
They will drive almost any speaker thrown at them.
The only drawback is the weight. They weigh in at 38kgs EACH.
But at 5lacs plus a bargain as compared to some overrated American stuff.
Cables speakers pre amps can all be from USA but these amps will make u sit up.

Hi,

Has anyone heard any of Karl Heinz's creations and liked them? It would help others if they could post their impressions.

Regards.

hi rajiv

just scanned thru your options. I am one of those happy people to have sampled and opted to buy Virenji's tube amp.It would very much be worthwhile to drop by in Delhi (on your way to Cal) and meet with Virenji. You will encounter not just excellent products (simple yet amazing designs and very user friendly) but also a highly knowledgeable man and a gentleman.

I have little doubt that Virenji would be able to give what you want. And it would stand up to anything that they make in the US and sell at absurd prices.

Good luck.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
