Hi Guys
I really enjoyed The two seasons of The Killing (the original in Danish is better than the US version, I think) and several episodes of Wallander ....again the Swedish version being so much more Noir than the Keneth Branagh BBC version. In the same genre I also have the French series of Spiral but would like to find Season 1 and 2 of Borgen. Anyone please? Thanks !!
(The above refers to TV series rather than movies like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and Hearhunters etc....)

This is interesting for the reason we have been dumped with Hollywood and American style movies and sitcoms for decades - something that gives me a bit of Nausea. Are these DVDs available locally?

yup i recently got interested in this genre..excellent. the killing (original) was awesome..havnt seen the uk remake.
i guess u meant head hunters there.
pusher (1996) is another one i would recommend.

Haven't seen Pusher..will try and pick it up. There is a US remake of The Killing. But BBC made a UK remake of some of the Wallander series, which is just not as realistic and downright depressing as the original LOL :)
Sorry, I did mean headhunters !
This is superb stuff and a completely new genre to enjoy....

There are 3 Pusher Movies (1, 2 and 3). All are very good. 1 and 3 are particularly good. I love Nicholas Winding-Refn's work!

More suggestions on euro shows welcome. Heard that Dekalog was good (not exactly noir) and is on waiting list to be watched.

^^ Dekalog is IMO a must-watch. Kieslowski's best work -- as good, or perhaps even better than the Trois Couleurs trilogy and The Double lives of Veronique. Very deep, and contains food for thought about many of life's lessons, belief/faith and love. I watched all 10 in 3 days, and could barely sleep after I watched them. I love a nicely done abstract presentation, and these 10 episodes are just perfection!

Absolutely with you Hydra, I prefer the Dekalog too to the Three Colours - contains A Short film about Love and A Short Film about Killing, which I think were expanded into full films later. If we are moving into Eastern European films of the recent past....I really recommend Mephisto. It is quite riveting. Hungarian Director but a co-production between Hungary, Austria and what was then West Germany.
Of TV serials, much in the mood of Scandinavian noir (which the above film is not) then I suggest watching the three series of SPIRAL....French ....and very realistic....replete with hard to like heroes at every turn.....

Yup, you're right about those two movies that were pulled out of the Dekalog and expanded. I've not managed to get those yet. The "Thou shalt not kill" one was truly chilling!

I'll try and get Mephisto.

The best kind of heroes, IMO! Will try and get these too. Thanks!

Istvn Szab's Mephisto is a remarkable film. And Klaus Maria Brandauer performance in the lead role is absolutely riveting. The film is based on a novel by Klaus Mann and incorporates the German legend of Mephistopheles and Faust into the story of an actor literally willing to sell his soul in order to enact great roles. Klaus Mann was the son of the great German fiction writer Thomas Mann who wrote Buddenbrooks, The Magic Mountain and Dr. Faustus
