Are JBL SCS200.5BK 5.1 Channel Speakers good enough for a 10 x 12ft bedroom?

Hi All,

I am deuce at home theatre systems. I have a Philips 32PFL6506/V7 32'' Full HD LCD. (Philips - 6000 series LCD TV 81 cm (32") Full HD 1080p - 32PFL6506/V7 - 6000 series - Televisions - Sound and vision). The TV has a USB input slot and i regularly use it.

I also own a Sony PS3 system. I understand it can play Blue ray discs. So am confused whether I should by a home theatre system or just speakers. Can the PS3 double up as a DVD player?
I was thinking of buying a Sony DAV-TZ 215 HTS but now am confused whether getting JBL SCS200.5BK 5.1 Channel Speakers (http://www.cromaretail.com/JBL-SCS2005BK-51-Channel-Speakers-(Black)-pc-15054-323) instead would be a better option. My budget is just 20k so pls advise accordingly. :sad:

The JBL 5.1 speaker system alone won't work. It needs a 5 channel amplifier for the satellite speakers. Sony is not recommended because it has limited connectivity options. I suggest the Yamaha 196 which eventhough is an older model has a lot of features and should be available around 20K. Another option below 20K is logitech Z906, but it has no hdmi inputs. If you can raise the budget to 25K then try to get Onkyo 3400. Onkyo 3500 is latest model but it is priced around 30K.

An entry level AVR like Yamaha 371, Denon 1312 etc. will cost you around 22-25K. Add to this the cost of 5.1 speaker system. On the other hand an HTiB like Onkyo 3400/3500 comes with an AVR and 5.1 speaker system. My recommendation will be Onkyo 3400/3500 if you have a budget of 25K-30K.

If your preference is more about movies/games and the intention is to use the 5.1 system in a living/bed room, like baiju has already suggested look for Onkyo 3500 (which has music through USB). Also look for Yamaha YHT-296 which is also good. Yamaha YHT-296 comes with active subwoofer, onkyo 3500 has only passive subwoofer. If you are going to use in the bedroom, better look for the ones which can be mounted easily on the walls. Onkyo does not come with wall mount brackets, and I dont know if Yamaha comes with wall mount brackets. Anyway get a good wall mount brackets.

Take an audition and select whichever is good for your ears.

onk 3400 or yam 296.......or denon 1312xp all 3 are very good entry level htib complete set.

onkyo HT-S3500 for about 25k would be perfect for you!!! suggest to stretch your budget a bit, you will not regret it. Denon 1312XP would be a bit better but also more expensive. But either one are very good HTIB systems.
