Hi friends,
At last paired my TT with the Amplifier and Graphic. all these days were spent repairing the Amp and the speakers. they were tested by playing from sources like mobiles, cheap CD players and even my PC. All of the sounded great with heart throbbing bass and equally sweet highs along with a good mid range. I liked the sound ( Though I am not quite aware of other setups) and finally tried to connect my TT with the system.
The Results were bad enough to make me cry.
The bass was muddy, the vocals were not up to the expectations and highs were too suppressed. Had connected to the phono input of the amp.
next connected the TT to another input using the phono stage of the TT. The SQ improved a bit, the highs were a bit clear, the bass was now felt. but overall I am in pain.
what could be the problem? the cartridge is AT 92E as supplied with the TT( pre installed in the headshell). it has run for a max of 15 hrs till date.
Gurus please help me!

unlike digital devices, cd players, etc, a turntable is not a plug and play device. Vinyl is a medium that requires a fair bit of understanding before indulgence. Even a simple vinyl setup can be made to sound fantastic. However there are loads of dependencies, which you will need to understand and accommodate before you get there. On another note, if you are very much satisfied with the sound of typical digital media (a combination of sharp & shrill highs, moderate mids and deep tight lows), you are not likely to fall in love with vinyl sound. A lot of us have grown up listening to vinyl and thought digital media sounded different when we heard it, so we went back to vinyl. The newer generation who are not happy with digital reproduction are switching to vinyl, however there is a large population who are staying with digital media because they like it. There are a lot of us out there who have switched to vinyl but there is an equal (if not larger) percentage of people who have made the comparison and stayed with digital because thats the type of sound they liked (one example is my brother). If that the type of sound signature you like, then you're not likely to fall in love with the sound of vinyl. My 2 cents.

I'm using Sonodyne Uranus SA 580+SQ580 to listen to Technics 1200 MK II +Shure M97Xe. The sound is super smooth. It's hard to tell where the issue is in your system. You need to check the phono section of the amp first, the connects, ground and everything. If that does not solve the problem, try listening with any other turntable hooking to same amp.

Or if you are using EQ as well, make jazz setting manually in the EQ i.e. just like U shape and ensure that the mids won't go below middle 0db. Now keep loudness on in the amp. Twaek this difference and see if there is any improvement.

Recently I took the headshell to a friend's house and connected it to his AKAI turntable. It was paired with Sonodyne SIA 102R and Sonus 2605 v3. The SQ was very good. His Opinion was that the preamp section of AT LP120 has some capacitors in them which reduce the SQ in my set and suggested me to remove the whole thing and to connect the TT directly to the phono preamp of my set as was in the TT of the earlier days which had no preamp output.
What's your opinion about this? Can anyone help me to carry out this MOD. also a Ground wire would be required for the setup which is originally not present in the AT LP120.

Not too much of a complex job. I too am with the opinion of by passing the entire pre-amp circuitry of the LP120. The process for bypassing it should be very simple. Just solder the wires coming from the tonearm directly to the RCA Out wires. Add a ground wire by attaching the tt side ground to the metallic tone arm. The other end obviously goes to the amp body or a contact mentioned for grounding.

Just follow the following codes for bypassing the circuit:

White: Left Channel
Blue: Left Channel Ground
Red: Right Channel
Green: Right Channel Ground

As a standard & conventional practice, use black for earth/ ground. Make sure you do this with the headshell & cartridge removed.

Dear Saket,
Thanks for your reply. Will try with it in a next few days and will post the results.
