Hi everybody,
Feeling very sad:sad: today after the death of my phono cartridge (AT95E), due to my mishandling. The right channel has got feeble.
Now with the urgent requirement of a cartridge (at a time of financial crunch) I am looking for a budget cart to suit me. Finally I have decided on AT3600L.
In your opinion , how do you rate this cart?:sos:
Secondly, any opinion on the site Turntableneedles.com is highly sought as this will be the first time I wish to shop over there. Please share your experiences.
regards,
Amitava Sengupta

Don't know about the cart , but you can't go wrong with turntableneedles.com. Have placed at least 10 orders with them for styli, cartridges, brushes, headshells & other accessories. Very good service and usually delivered within 2-3 weeks at most.

Do they charge custom duty to the shipping too? And what is the return policy if they shipped a wrong item or in case the item gets damaged in transit?
It will be great if you can explain the process of placing an order on the site. Will help a lot of people like me who are reluctant of making international online purchases, more so because of lack of clarity on the procedure.

Thanks,
Saket

+1 with Saket. I'm as well looking forward to the procedure. I've never made a single international purchase online.

And with those tempting prices on international sites, it is hard to resist those offers. Though, keeping in mind the customs duty which might get slapped at products, I feel, still the products can be had for much cheaper than making a local purchase.

I always prefer to buy from abroad. It always works out cheaper. I never had to pay custom duty for small items. Your money is also safe with PayPal

No specific source.I buy from anywhere,if they accept Paypal. So far I have bought from Needledoctor, kabusa, turntablebasics, JICO,hifido, and even from ebay vendors.I don't even remember all names.I always check seller's reputation if buying from ebay.
Both my TTs Micro Seiki and Lenco L75 bought from individuals in Us and Germany. You must have good relations with other forum members, else most of individuals will reluctant to ship abroad.

Sachin

A question just out of the track. Is it safe to share my debit card details with Paypal? What are the charges they make for a transaction in us dollars? What are the safety you take while transacting with Paypal?

I don't know whether Debit card can be added with Paypal account.Debit card linking was not available earlier.I am using my CC with paypal since many years. It is always a risk with any online transaction, whether Paypal or not. I once charged $82 for some online gaming site from Hong kong or Singapore. I got an sms from my CC issuing bank that your cart has been charged for $82.I immediately blocked that card and sent a mail to Paypal.Paypal investigated that transaction and reversed total amount. The procedure took 10 days.

I always source from ebay.de

The Germans are very accurate with their descriptions, products are in excellent condition (strictly goverened by EU laws) and more importantly, sellers use DHL which means, no customs headaches. The DHL guys do the needful to clear the item past the foreign post office and all we need to do is pay the customs duty (if we are unlucky), at our doorstep.

DHL has nothing to do with customs in India.Germany has outsourced postal dept to DHL.Whenever your order from German seller. They will ship by DHL,and DHL guys hand over your package to Indian post for custom and delivery. All the paper work and delivery done by Indian post.

Actually if the packet is booked by dhl then dhl guys take care of the customs etc and you need to pay for the same at the time of taking delivery.

But I have imported many things from Germany, including my Lenco turntable.Everything has been shipped by DHL and custom and delivery handled by Indian postal dept. As far as I know Postal dept is handled by DHL in Germany.
BTW: I have shipped hundreds of PCBs to US,UK and Europe, never had any problem. It normally takes 20 days to delver in US,10 days for UK and most parts of western Europe, but it gets 1-2 months to delivered in Germany. I have shipped total 6 times to Germany and average delivery time was 1.5 months. One of the package was retained by DHL as they needed invoice with company stamp.

Customs duty will be charged separately by India Post. Turntableneedles.com refuses to mark down the value for duty savings, but so far I've had to pay duty only once - for an Ortofon cart that cost around 75$. Styli and other accessories upto 30$ I have ordered without any issues.

Return policy etc ought to mentioned somewhere in their FAQs - as such I've never had to return anything, all my packages have had the right item and completely damage-free.

Placing an order is easy enough - you just register, provided your shipping details, choose a shipping method, enter payment info and done.

Personally I had a bad experience with PayPal. My cc details were saved there, and I got an SMS from my bank saying my cc was used for some 100 EU through Paypal. Logged on to find my account was hacked and language preference set to Chinese. For some strange reason and fortunately for me, they hadn't changed my password (took me a while to figure out how to navigate a Chinese menu though!). Anyway, I got the transaction reversed, but never used Paypal after that.

Based on this, would not recommend saving Debit Card info as reversal won't be that easy.
