Audio-Technica has introduced its latest turntable, the AT-LP5X, in India. The new model, which builds on the foundation of its predecessor, the AT-LP5, comes with several upgrades, including a new dual-moving magnet stereo cartridge, enhanced speed capabilities and a built-in phono preamp. The turntable is priced at Rs 66,340 (MRP) and Rs 65,990 (MOP).
The AT-LP5X is designed to accommodate both audiophiles and vinyl enthusiasts with its direct-drive motor, which now supports three-speed playback—33, 45 and 78 RPM. The 78 RPM functionality requires a separate AT-VM95SP stylus, which is sold separately. The tonearm retains the J-shaped design of the AT-LP5, inspired by Audio-Technica’s turntables from the 1960s and 1970s, and incorporates a metallic gimbal suspension system and precision bearings. It also features an adjustable dynamic anti-skate control to minimise tracking errors.
The turntable is equipped with an AT-VM95E dual-moving magnet cartridge, which comes pre-mounted on an AT-HS6 head shell. The cartridge allows for stylus upgrades within the VM95 series. The platter is made of precision-machined aluminum to ensure stable rotation.
A key addition to the AT-LP5X is its built-in switchable Moving Magnet and Moving Coil phono/line preamp, enabling direct connectivity with powered speakers, computers and other audio components that lack a dedicated phono stage. The external power supply is designed to reduce signal chain noise.
The turntable includes a USB output for digitizing vinyl records. A USB cable is provided for PC connectivity, along with a link to download free Audacity software for converting records into digital formats such as MP3 and WAV.
The chassis is constructed with anti-vibration damping materials and heavy-mass internal inserts to reduce performance-affecting resonances. The turntable comes in a matte black finish and includes accessories such as a 5mm heavy damping mat, a dust cover and an RCA cable.
The AT-LP5X continues Audio-Technica’s focus on integrating analog playback with digital convenience. Its combination of direct-drive operation, upgradable stylus system and built-in preamp positions it as an option for those looking for a turntable with both modern and traditional functionalities. The model is now available in India through online and offline channels.
