Greetings
I have had a problem with fans ever since I remember... (not my female fans, only male and wall mounted types that loom over me).

You see, however cold or warm night it is, I always need the fan rotating. I need a faint breeze in the air, even in the coldest winters I risk a cold or blocked nose by leaving atleast one window open. Problem is that a little too strong breeze on my forehead for a long time results in me feeling fatigued and tired or slightly feverish the next day. This means I can only ever run a fan at speed One. The speed at Two and higher is always a little too much for comfort. And the lowest speed is too low for summer nights, the next level is almost always a little too strong for me.

Is there a fan regulator in the market that works like a Log tapered audiophile volume pot and not linear fashion? I wont mind a 10 speed regulator if thats what it takes to acheive full speed.

I've tried the new electronic regs in the market and they are trashy failure prone and lways linear.

Thanks

That's a strange obsession for fan speed accuracy...like playing an LP, you want the fan to rotate at a particular RPM?? Quartz Locked??

Well jokes apart, I think there are fan regulators which are very much like volume pots which let you choose your particular fan speed rather than those stepping regulators which have 1,2,3 etc. This should help your cause.

BTW, hope you are not planning a strobe lamp for checking the speed accuracy!:D

Yep you can say its the rpm I want to control a little more .. all current regulators I have seen have a runaway rpm with the next click .. too fast! :ohyeah:

Are yo utalking about those fan regulators without a tactile click for each step? I dont recall them to be good at in-between ratios...

What you might be needing is 2 regulators (non switching) in series. Keep the 2nd one at full and start adjusting first one. If its already faster, reduce the second one. If first one is @ 10% and second one also @ 10%, you have got 1% speed effectively. Don't know if empirically this is right but I guess it would work, as long as there is enough power to rotate the blades...!

This is a very interesting suggestion. I am not sure if OP will use it but I will make use of this method.

gobble I'm also facing the same problem with FAN, especially with the ceiling fan. I don't have AC and my HT room is on the top floor which gets heated a lot. But using the ceiling fan noise ruins the HT experience. The regulator is a local made one which does not control fan at even speed in each step.
So, I think we can use dimmers instead of regulators. I'm trying to install Crabtree Dimmer.Don't know if this is feasible, I need to consult with my electrician.
