Absolutely required.
The weakest link in sound reproduction is transducer (microphone and speakers). Microphones are taken care by sound producer however; the speakers are something that are on consumer's side and they need to take care of it on their own to do corrections.

i envy these people contributing to amazing projects to be honest. sometimes i wonder why i am so dumb. is it just because of lack of effort or something else? sorry guys thinking aloud here...
