Hello Everyone....

I would be returning soon from US so just wanted to check with the gurus here that is it a good idea to carry a AVR with me.

Awaiting some expert advice.

yes, an already discussed topic

Prices are way lower but you'd have to use a 220volts to 110volts step down transformer for running the equipment in India. This is something that is best avoided, from both a performance and commercial stand-point. However you can look out for equipment with have switchable options between 220volts and 110 volts.

Also, if you have a 110 volts model and later on, you want to upgrade and you decide to sell your AVR in India, there will be few takers.

mid to entry level are available in denon, yahama. I got my denon 1910 from US.

Thanks for the tips.....

My requirement is 70% music and 30% movies.....so please suggest a 5.1 AVR.......I will be buying the speakers in India as carrying speakers from here will be troublesome.....

with 70% music on the agenda, you should not be buying an AVR in the first place :ohyeah:

+100, Of course if Music preference is 70% then why not go for stereo set-up? Best stereo setup will sound better for movies too.

And one more advice. If you are planning to buy marantz gear then please buy them from India itself because the marantz sells in India for almost the same International price.
The marantz sr7008 costs $2000 in US and it sells for around Rs.110000, which translates to the same International price.
and the Denon X4000 costs $1300 in US but it sells for RS.120000, which is a very high price here in India. So, if you are gonna import the Receiver from US, then either import Denon or Onkyo etc. and not Marantz.

prices of Marantz in india, Dubai and US are the same. Denon, Yamaha have a different pricing in india

What is your budget ?... Yes.. Get it... Who would not want to save money when there is a chance :ohyeah:

Here are some links to get the dual voltage systems...

220-Electronics.com | International Relocation Electronics Specialists

Yamaha | Denon | Dual Voltage Audio Video receivers, World Wide voltage 110-220 volt AV Amps

Audio Video Receivers | 220volts Audio Video Receivers | 240 volts Aud

I bought my denon 2312 in us and carried it over myself. I had kept it in a separate suite case with few cloths around it. I am using it with a step down that costed me around 2k. I think you should not limit your options to 220 if you get a good deal don't worry about the voltage as you can always buy a stwpdown in India.

70% music will not necessarily be audio only..I love watching video songs on Youtube :)

What are the suggestions about Sony STR-DN1040. I am finding sony and yamaha 475 pretty tempting....

Amazon has sony for $400 and yamaha for $300

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
