Hi All,

I am completely new to this and need some help.

My sister's family needs to buy an AVR and Speakers. Budget is around 40K in total.

Their primary needs would be movies and very little bit of music and regular Tata Sky HD.

She is bit averse to idea of wires all around the room. (and room is fairly large in size)

So they need a good hdmi AVR to take in TV, Western Digital Player and Tata Sky HD. And Speakers to be either 2.0 or 2.1 since then wires would be limited to front desk.

Purschase would be based in Mumbai. So suggestions on which system and from where to buy would really help.

Present shortlist is - Wharfdale diamond 121 + yamaha AVR V373.

It seems nice but concern about:

1) is it best for that price range
2) is 2.0 Wharfdale good without a sub
3) are speakers good for a large room. (approx 18-20 ft in length)

Thanks

Anant

Did I miss something ? or is this question been answer so many times that with 113 views still no one answered.

Anyways Thanks for viewing. Sorry if i missed somethings which should have been included.

For a true movie experience you need a proper 5.1 setup. 2.0/2.1 can never cut it.

Why spend on an AVR if center and rear speakers wont be used? Better get a stereo amplifier. Won't have HDMI though.

In that budget, a HTiB makes sense. Better ask them what they want. A full experience or a half baked solution? Wires can always be routed nicely around a room.

The set-up that you have mentioned is good to start with but if you want to have a surround sound experience while watching movies, you need to invest in a good center speaker and a pair of surrounds. The center speaker should preferably be of the same make and surrounds could be of a different brand. Once you have more money, buy a sub.

Sorry for late reply. I understand n totally buy your point when you say you should have central and speakers on rear.

However knowing her whole plans would get jacked.

Stero amplifiers crossed my mind though lack of HDMI made me not even consider them.

HTiB again are mostly with wired systems.

If its possible to pick your brains a little more.

1) Any good HTiB which is wireless or any good surround speaker system (wireless) with AVR which solves the wire troubles.

2) How good is to rather go for a good sound bar option with a good woofer. Though I have my own bias about soundbar vs speakers+avr set up. YAS 1 of Yamaha or Sonodyne were otherwise by specs seem decent enough.

Thanks again,

Anant

Have you auditioned Violet speakers? It does not come with AVR but may suit your need. Go to a chroma nearby and listen to them...the price is about 62k.

I actually got this booklet from Chroma and I saw them, 60K is out of budget. I could make her stretch till 45K. Plus they looked like space rockets or something :)

You know how for most women spending on audio is futile :)

I would recommend a soundbar for her. No hassle with wires or placement issues. The sound will be good and on par with any 2.0 system.

Of course at that budget she can also go for many HTIBs from Onkyo and/or Yamaha and the SQ will be much better but of course with the hassle of wires running about the house.

I have auditioned a couple of soundbars from Yamaha and detail and clarity is excellent though no real 5.1 SFX that comes with a true 5.1 setup.

@musicbee

Thanks man, i know what you mean about difference between soundbar and speaker set up.

Being a noob, does a sound bar then require an AVR?

and regarding HTiB, any good wireless setup with an AVR in that range?

anyways Thanks man

Soundbars are powered (inbuilt amplification) so you don't need an AVR. They sound very good too. I heard a couple from Yamaha extensively (one around 26K and another around 1 lac) and both sounded very good though needless to say the 1 lac one had excellent clarity and detail that would challenge most separates at that budget... just not 5.1 sound that comes from a 5.1 setup. Other than that they compare favorably with most HTIBs in that budget, but do check for the latest models if you want DTS Master HD and/or Dolby TrueHD as the older models are limited to DTS and DD 5.1.

HTIB with wireless setup I have not come across... though you can get any local electrician to cover the wiring to make it near invisible.

There were some HTiBs available with wireless rear speakers. Can't remember the brands.

Isn't there a Bose 3-2-1 something? No idea about the price though.

@musicbee

yes Yamaha has some excellent (spec wise) sound bar. though would try to get audition.
Its rental accommodation so she does not want to damage walls etc but getting wires across walls. Thus were looking for wireless HTiB options.

@shuv
Bose is way out of budget, even their 2.1 is above 60K etc. So cant even suggest.

There are HTiBs with wireless rear speakers from Sony and LG but they are in the range of Rs 55-60,000. These include blu ray players which you don't seem to need.

If you have a full wall, you could run the rear speaker cables in a 3" wide conduit like this so it almost looks like the skirting. This is in my living room.

@Naturelover

Wow thats really clean work man, real respect.

No i have WD TV Live there so i wont need a blue-ray. Thanks anyways.
