Good evening everybody,

I have a question regarding my subwoofer, and also regarding my amplifier.

I have a Sony TA-D507, hooked up to a Magnat Magnastar double action woofer (which i bought for 3 euros and refoamed recently) and that woofer is hooked up to 2 Saba Professional 1300 speakers.

The problem i'm facing here is that the Magnat Magnastar is not quite as loud as I would want it to be. The funny thing is though, that when i turn the "balance" button all the way to the right or to the left, the Magnastar does a way better job: it is way more loud and i can feel it trembling.

Does anyone have an idee what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance,

dbhuis.

P.S. I am sorry for my poor english: it is not my native language.

Welcome to HFV dbhuis!

I am afraid, I don't understand the query well enough. Could you clarify?

You have a Sony TA-D507 and two 2 Saba Professional 1300. You have hooked these speakers to the Sony amp. But how have you hooked the Magnat speakers? Does your amp have a subwoofer out? Or have you connected it differently?

No, that is not the case. ( by the way, again, i'm sorry for my english :shame: )
The Sony TA-D507 is the amplifier. It's 2 output cables ( which should go to the speakers) both go into the Magnastar subwoofer. From the subwoofer 2 cables go to the Saba's.

Magnastar = subwoofer.
Sony = amplifier.
Saba's = speakers.

I hope this clarifies it a little bit.

P.S. Thank you for the welcome! :)

Ok, it's clear now.

Apparently, your amp is underpowered to handle the load under normal circumstances. When you turn the balance to one side all the way up, the amp only has to deliver power to one channel, and it has sufficient power for that.

You should try and get a cheap amp to power your sub separately. That is, one amp for sub and one for main speakers. That should help. There are many reasonably priced amps in 100-200 USD range in the pro market. Behringer/Crown Audio/Samson are some that immediately come to mind. These companies offer amps that cheap yet powerful and sound reasonably good.

Oh, actually i've got a Sony STR-K740P standing around that i got for free from someone.
According to him, it's been struck by lightning. The effect of that is that is simply plays at way lower volumes than it did before it was struck. Does anyone have an idea what i can possibly do about this?

Your opinion is very important for me thanks

You would be better off taking it to a qualified technician. It might have some minor burnt caps to an entirely dead circuitry. Hard to tell. Sorry, not much help here.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
