Gents,

Thinking of building a new plinth for the 401.

Any experiences that anybody has to share on beechwood vs. slate. (single or multi layered)

I have also come to the decision that the amp (Sonodyne 8000R) is seriously exhibiting its limitations. Any suggestions on a solid state amp?

All comments welcome. And thanks in advance

FV

I'd prefer beechwood.... i tried a slate plinth.... its too brittle and hence loading the arm is b1tch!

do multiple layers-- at least 5.

Thanks Malvai. Did you use the same dimensions to the plinth or was it one of those contoured ones?

A bit more grease elbow involved but you should "invent" the contoured one for the 401. There's none at this point, afaik. You will become famous:) and you can give it a fancy name too.

My next plinth project for me 401 is going to be Italian Slate. The slate used on Snooker Tables. This will however be initiated maybe after 6 months as I am yet to get me 401 singing on its new plinth and also tonearm installs.
