I recently bought the Beyerdynamic DT 990 - primary usage is movies, although I do listen to the occasional flac file.
I am running them via the Nuforce udac from my Macbook pro.

1. Are they under-amped at the moment ?

are they the 32 Ohm or 600Ohm version ?
need breaking of at least 200 hrs else they have a big bass bloat

where did u get that?online or straight buy?
I picked them up at Jaben (Singapore)

Actually neither :) .They are the 250 ohm version. How much did you get your set (I've noticed your signature) for ? I listened to the Sennheisers/Grados/Ultrasones/Shures in the same price range , but somehow seemed drawn back to this model.Suprisingly,I find the trebles accentuated when I listen to flac files on my mac.I have since read on various forums that the mids are recessed but that this should hopefully get better with burn-in.I've hardly used them for a few hours now.
What are your impressions on the audio quality ? Do you tinker with equalizer settings ?

I am not too much of a hp guy. I burnt it in and then it's been lying like that .

I have these headphones and i must say they have over powering boomy bass, and kind of warmish sound where mids take the back stage hi-lighting the highs and lows. they do get a little better after burn in and if you power them properly. Generally Beyer is not as power hungry as AKG or Sennheiser.

I bought these after listening just for a different sound flavor from my HD600 but looks like i am a HD600 guy, cause these are lying idle after the first month since i bought them.

I never equalize sound either in my stereo setup or head phone setup, if your primary usage is movies then i think DT990 will do much better along with Ultrasone and denon than AKG and Sennheiser.
