hi,

I am in the process of building /upgrading my home theatre system . THANKS to the well wishers of this forum, have managed to get myself a denon 1911 reciever and a mirage mx 5.1 .i have a moserbear 42 inch full hd lcd (2 yrs old ..will upgrade may be next year end to a 55 )and a lg home theatre system on which i watch my dvds . i also have a sizble collection of downloaded movies and the process is on.
i am now trying to finalize as to what blu -ray player to buy .

BUDGET: 15K TO 20 K

option 1 .
DUNE HD MAX -
pre decided on it so went on a ordering spree for blu ray cds from amazon mostly region free , another list given to my sis in the US to be sent to me thru a relative coming in nov end .
CONS : above my budget ,

as i digged deeper into the forum threads i have come up with some other options

option 2.

POPKORN HOUR C200 (SLOT FOR HDD AND BD ROM)

QUERY: WILL THE BD ROM (AVAILABLE IN INDIA) BE REGION FREE ?

option 3:

SONY BDP-380 + ASUS O PLAY MINI ( OR ANY OTHER MEDIA/STEAMING PLAYERS )

the one aviliable with bill and warrenty is region c for blu rays
in the grey market sony bdp-380 region -A IS available which according to the dealer ALSO plays REGION C .he has no demo peice on which i can check on
CONS : NOT REGION FREE
my source of blu rays are either from the US OR AMAZON UK (region free option available) . so can manage with this option too for the time being till some more cheaper options aviliable in the region free category.

hoping to be guided by the forum members..

thanks!

Dune HD Max Bluray player is region free and available in Dubai for About 27000 Indian Rupees.

You can consider Panasonic BDPs and make them region free by installing Enhanced Firmware for a fee. Some forum members have done so.

dune hd max s best price is 29 k with bill and warrenty in mumbai . its feasable for me to buy it here than to be at the mercy of the coustoms if i get it from abroad .

as for the panasonic blu rays ,i have searched other threads ,but i have not found clear definite solution to make it region free. its more of "can" and "maybe". Hope that someone who has got it done throw some light on it!
thanks for the suggestions!

Go for a PS3. I bought one last week and am more than happy with its DVD upscaling and blu-ray playback.

PS3 IS NOT REGION FREE ,.Does any one know about THE KAIBOER 750li ,it is supposed to be region free , read about it in the sep issue of AV MAX ,cost is about 19 k on e bay . have not been able to get a demo of it in mumbai rather none of the dealers i know have it .
