bluray player drive interchange

It may not.I have seen tried to check with DVDP & DVD rom.
You can see many changes.
Interphase in BDp is diffrent from BD-rom.Secondly lens system differs from model to model.
So in my opinion BDP can not be used as BD-rom or vice versa.

Well you must have seen bluray media player say Dune.
Dedicated DVDp like sony shld look different.Secondly these players has onbrd Video decoders which PC drive dont.We use software with codec for that.

hi, i would like to know is the drive in blueray drive can be interchangable with any other pc drive.it looks both the drives are same.has any one have any idea in this regard?i heard hard ware lock and software lock.any information in this regard?

Some of the earlier ones for Blu-ray and some from Toshiba for HDDVD, did indeed come with PC Drives, that you could take out, and place inside a computer.
Nowadays, there may be some that are able to do that (like the PS3 which is actually a high spec computer), but you can't do it with others like the Sony BDP-s370 (and presumably the rest of the) series.

yes, you are correct. like sony bdps1,pioneer bdp hd1 and toshiba hda1/ax1 used the same drives which are used in pcs.but i think they may be hardware locked. reg new bluray players i have no idea.

There was a video on the net of a crazy American guy who completely took apart his just purchased, unused, first generation Toshiba HDDVD player (the cheaper model, of course), and removed the drive. He then connected that drive to a PC, where it was recognized as an HDDVD drive. As far as I can recall, he could not get anything to play on it at the time as he did not have any software for that, but the drive could read DVDs and CDs. :ohyeah: That video must be somewhere on the net. I saw it years ago!

EDIT: Hold on, I've found it! :D

The video analyzing the chips used to be here: http://hdvforever.com/blog/HDDVD_decoding_chips.wmv

The video cracking the TOSH open, you get to see the HDDVD Rom drive working on a PC: http://couponmeister.com/blog/HDDVD.wmv

Apparently the first Toshiba HDDVD player had a fully functioning P4 notebook + mobo/cpu in it!!!!

Thank goodness for wealthy American pioneers who boldly tread where no one else dares to go. :yahoo:
