Dear friends,
The intention behind this post is not to argue how good or how average the Bose speakers are. I am just trying to find a way that these famous speakers, (undeniably so) can be afforded by the ordinary man who has heard of or fancies the Bose speaker sound or label.
Surely, there are much better sound systems out there.. so don't start a slugfest or a direct attack on how good or average these speakers are.. That is not the intention behind this post.

Study the following costs:
Bose 161 pair: Rs. 12263
Bose 161 2 pairs: Rs.24526
Bose VCS 10 center channel: Rs. 10500 (Approx)
So total cost: Rs 35026.
Plus possible discounts.

Plus Rs. 15000 to Rs. 20000 on a good subwoofer like the Wharfedale SW 150 or the Sonodyne Roarr series.

Do my findings tempt you? Do you want to step up to the Bose sound?
This post is only to satisfy those FMs who dream about the Bose brand and who can't afford them. So please don't argue about the quality of the speakers here in this post.
Yours,

Bose VCS 10 is not available in India and think they have stopped it. So you need to look at some other brand for center also. I am using AM15 + 101 as 7.1 setup.

Dear friends,
The center channel Bose VCS 10 may not be in production nowadays, it seems.
This makes my proposal for an affordable Bose based Home Theater all the more feasible because decent center channel speakers are available from other reputed brands for about Rs. 5,000 onwards.
So please minus Rs. 5-6K from my estimate.
The Bose 161 and the erstwhile VCS 10 are rated at 10-100 RMS. 4-8 Ohms.
The old Bose VCS 10 center had 4 Twiddler drivers whereas, the 161s have 2 Twiddler drivers. These are extra long excursion speakers with decent Bass.
Now, The estimate for Bose Based Home theater speakers stands at Rs. 30,000 approx while using imported center channel speaker of other make and only the subwoofer is not accounted for in my Rs. 30,000 estimate.
A discount may make it easier to achieve this. So, folks, please do bargain for a good discount. No harm in asking.

i think the acoustimass 5 speakers for the front channel at 24K would be better and deeper

Going by that, buying only two 161 for front would make the proposal more affordable. Then you can own Bose for 12K+ ;)
