hi, i had recently bought philips 32" 5409 and just a week back bought another lcd sony 32bx300. But this time i bought it from the grey market for 24.8k. I like the way it looks, but compared to my philips, its a downer. i somehow think there is a big difference in the PQ of sony and philips. the philips shows very natural and almost CRT like picture quality but sony i am unable to get the same or better picture quality. Can someone tell me the best settings for the sony bx300 lcd as there are tonnes of settings in the menu. The colors are not at all natural and have a very bright and pinkish fell to them. EVen the build quality is no where near philips 5409. Now i am planning to buy the philips 40" lcd of the 5000 series, what would be the latest price of this set.

well the sony BX300 is a low cost version with the basic 32" HD panel either from AUO or CPT,comes with OEM backlight and color filter, with limited image processing,if one wants a model equivalent to the mid range 5409 you will need the EX300,although both the BX300 and EX300 are advertised as BE3 their is still a difference in the way colors, motion are shown so is the contrast.
the BX300 is one of the cheapest tvs from a branded company costs less then 19k in some countries.

the basic settings one can do in sony lcds are turn off all the noise reduction settings, black corrector, clear white,ACE to low or off.sharpness to no more then 10 to 12.also turn down the backlight to the lowest in the night time or if your room is dim you can turn on the Power saving, again when you are watching SD video content when the backlight is set to max typical of sony lcds default mode, one can easily spot the artifacts in SD source.
you can also set the color temperature to warm 1.

now the philips comes with really good factory settings, where as in the sony one needs to adjust it

Well,Philips is really impressive ,Kapin visited my Home & he was little surprised to see natural PQ.

@sanchits
Would request you to let us know, are you able to get satisfactory picture quality vis-a-vis Philips, once you tweak the default settings for BX300( as specified by adder) ?

^ I don't think it would be possible, There is simply no comparison between the bx300 and 5409 cause the latter is better in almost everything by a big margin.

For me Philips factory settings is one of the worst and needs lot of tweaking(holds true for most of the tv's ive seen specially the high end ones)

The new range of LCD's from Sony specially the BX and EX series to my eyes seem very un-impressive in terms of contrast, color accuracy and black level.

Philips 7 series which in comparison is far better and has better contrast, blacks but does not have the color accuracy compared to the older or the new 9 series.

The OP has paid 24k for the tv and i guess it might provide a pic quality worth that price after a bit of playing around with the settings.

Cheers.

It seems the philips 5609 which Spiro has is much appreciated. But is it ok to go for a philips lcd with all this talk of them shutting down consumer electronics ops?

They are streamlining their products and not shutting down. You will see a selected models of LCD and other common consumer electronics getting sold but more of lifestyle electronics getting added to the line up.

It is absolutely fine to to go for a Philips LCD.

I bought the sony bx300 too recently. The quality seems low.
But i have another problem with it.
Before, i had an LG flatscreen (29inch) which i had connected to a Sony home theatre (Model DAV-DZ150K). I had just connected using the normal coaxial cables (Red, white and yellow), and when i want to get the tv sound output into the home theatre, i would just choose the option for TV/VIDEO function on the Home theatre. Now after getting the BX300, if i try the same, it does not work. Does anyone know how i can get the sound from the TV into the home theatre?
