Can someone help me, what is the max size that can be carried as checked-in baggage in airline. is it possible to bring 46nch LED TV?

Thanks

I had read somewhere that it's not. What you'll need to do is:

1) Go through the documentation of the TV you're targeting and note down the dimensions and weight.
2) Contact the airline and check whether those dimensions/ weight can be carried in as check-in baggage?

Typically airlines will have a limit to the max. weight/ dimensions that can be carried in as a check-in baggage. Beyond that, you'll have to book it as cargo.

Hi,
Advance wishes for acquiring 46" TV. I Have brought a 42 incher in the past and i could pass thru customs too!!!!. Given todays TV carton size and weight it should not be a problem, but think twice as 55" sony 3d tv is costing around 95 K in chennai' grey market. Hence there would not be any big saving for the risk that you are going to take.

The saving is purely dependant on which country you are going to buy, which air lines whether budget or normal line etc., Normaly the duty charged for 46" is around 4K, this info may be helpful for you to arrive at the landing cost.

Bringing TV as U A B (un accompanied baggage) is cheaper than booking it as cargo please check on this clearly with your AL co.

More importantly, check the packaging size of the TV, that can be much larger/wider than the TV itself. Rules also vary from airline to airline & also sometimes class of your ticket. Check with your travel agent or airline.

My brother-in-law purchased a Samsung 46" 5030 in Singapore and brought it to India via SIA. He was with two other persons and their total checked in baggage did not exceed the limits. Hence the TV could be check-in without paying additional baggage charges. The carton size posed no problems - nowadays flights from SE Asia, UAE/Gulf, etc. are full of people carrying 40"~46" TVs. 50"+ could be a problem though - best to check with the airline.

This may be cheaper for baggage charges but unaccompanied baggage does not entitle one to the INR 35,000 duty exemption. The duty on unaccompanied is 35% + 3% Education Cess and 4% spl. countervailing duty. This effectively results into 41.9% duty. So one must take both factors into account.

I think Indigo baggage policy is clear on this if you look at their website.. reproduced the same below

"Checked Baggage must have the Customers name or other personal identification affixed to it.
Sports/Skiing equipment, golf bags, large musical instruments, bicycle, surf boards, LCD and LED TVs of size more than 39 inches, and other such large and/or odd-sized items submitted as Checked Baggage will be subject to a fee of INR 1000 (or equivalent in foreign currency) per piece of equipment, per Sector, (inclusive of service tax and cess, if applicable) over and above any excess Baggage that might be applicable.

IndiGos rules for carriage of LCD / LED TVs on board its flights are as under:
Maximum two (02) LCD / LED TVs can be carried by one passenger in checked in baggage.
Maximum size of LED / LCD TV that shall be accepted for carriage is 55 inches.
For passengers carrying one TV, the checked-in baggage weight (including that of the TV) in excess of the free baggage allowance will be charged at the applicable Excess Baggage rate. Further, LED / LCD TV of size more than 39 inches will attract additional handling charges, as detailed in the grid above.
For passengers carrying two TVs, the checked-in baggage weight (including that of both the TVs) in excess of the free baggage allowance will be charged at the applicable Excess Baggage rate. Further, IndiGo will levy additional handling charges on carriage of the 2nd TV irrespective of size of the TV, at the rate applicable to TVs of size more than 39 inches, at the rate detailed above for carriage of TVs and other large / odd sized baggage.
Carriage of TVs shall also be governed by other applicable terms and conditions contained in IndiGos Conditions of Carriage with regard to carriage of fragile items, etc."

The rates of other airlines are somewhat 2-3 times more. Jet charges 3 to 5k. But it seems one thing is common, all of them allows only upto 55 inches.
