hi all,

i am planning to buy samsung LED 40". i am little confused whether to buy now
or wait for some more months for the new 2010 models to come up. Basically
i am expecting either samsung will release new models with good features in LED line up like 240 Hz local dimming etc. or at least the existing prices will come down. any thoughts.

thanks

What are you trying to get out of 240Hz frequency or local dimming? I see no value in either of these - its to justify the marketing budget at Samsung.

RE: prices coming down...yes they will like every other brand.

+1 to above. To the naked eye, anything above 100Hz progressive scan will not make perceptible difference unless you are sitting 1 foot away from the TV.

Prices of older models will always come down and new models will be introduced at prices matching the current top-of-the-line.

Agree on the 100/200 Hz motion/ refresh-rate, but not on local dimming. If you compare LED backlit LCD models edge-LED (Samsungs B6000/B7000, LGs SL90) vs. full LED with local dimming (LGs LH90) you will see a difference in PQ. Local dimming improves PQ/black-level not only in theory but in real life viewing.

Buddy

Kindly wait for a year atleast in case if you guyz are planning any LED TVs...
Prefer buying a Plasma...

As, these dayz what LEDs we have, they are just the supporting lights, for better brightness, otherwise the panel is the same old LCD...
so in actual these are not the Original LED Panels, which can overtake LCD & Plasma negatives...

Sony is the First one to Launch the complete actual LED TV that actually is known as OLED (Organic LED)...
But, they are horribly priced as of now, the 11" TV is Rs.1.1L.. but they are planning to come with proper 32", 42" & 50" TVs at a much better rate...
Though initially the prices will be almost double than the regular LCDs, but the quality will be superb as well...

So Hope for the best...

I guess almost everyone in this forum knows current LED TVs are just LED-backlit LCD TVs. There is little doubt that OLED screens are going to be next big thing in flat panel TVs. But if you follow all the recent news/ media-reports, you would know that OLED panels (for flat panel TVs) above 22/26 size are yet to be production-ready, anywhere in the world. During 2008 CES, some companies (Sony, Samsung) showcased 15 OLED screens and claimed that they would come up with production-ready models with much bigger size screens in the next year. But during the 2009 CES, only 26 OLEDs, that too prototypes (& not production ready models) were shown and no one made any clear commitment on when bigger size OLED TVs would be available in the market. Apparently, all the major TV/panel manufacturers (Sony, Samsung) have slowed down on their plans to productize OLED based TVs for obvious reasons they want to first get the returns on all the investments they made on LCDs/LED-backlit LCDs. Some people in the US who know enough about this industry are saying decent sized (>= 32) OLED TVs may be available in the US market earliest by 4th quarter (Oct-Dec) of this year.

In summary, I would say it would not be wise to believe all those hyped news regarding OLED TVs taking over LCDs or LED-backlit LCDs anytime soon, especially in India. I dont believe OLED TVs would be available in India anytime before 2011 (maybe 2012). Till then we need to look at and evaluate the best available (or soon to be launched) LCDs and LED-backlit LCDs.

well 3d still has a long way to go.in about 2 years time most tvs will have LED as their light source, with affordable local dimming becoming lcds.
60" lcds will be priced under a lakh.

According to one expert on his forum ( not me) Z series willbe availble on Footpath after som years ( dunno how many) Remember the expert...

Do not think much in terms of long run

"IN LONG RUN EVERYONE ID DEAD."

:ohyeah::ohyeah:

Hemant

What more you want for the Flat Panel...

Bloody all these are available on all counters next door, so its already half way to be on Footpath, if someone is saying more on Footpath, definitely it will be in another couple years, same what has happened to PCs, they are available with the "KABADIWALAs" as well...

And the one who is looking in for LED, its right that there is a new technology everyday other day, so its limitless wait for a good system, but choose something which is best, and i think the so called LED TVs available are not worth.. so my hands will be on to Plasmas only..

So take a wise decision...

I took my ecision on and half years back.FHD LG 42 and very good price at that time.

Maybe get another display in next 2-3 years :ohyeah::ohyeah:
