Buying AVR and HT Speakers : Grey Market ?

Hey,

I live in Pune but would be driving to Mumbai fro some personal stuff soon. I needed to buy a Home Theater system so was wondering if i could visit Alfa and pick it up from there. .

I have heard that price difference is to the tune of 40% . .

Thinking of buying BA Soundware XS 5.1 and a Marantz/Yamaha AVR. . kind of strapped on budget so thinking of going the grey market way. .

Anyone has any experience or tips before i take the plunge ?

Absolutely no problem as long as they are brand new, box packed and you are the one to open the box. Even open boxes are no issues as long as you have confidence in the seller by some means. don't worry about warranty cause if you bring it from abroad will you worry about warranty. There is no difference between you or someone else brings it for you. In fact in Chennai there used to times when they used to import in container loads which is lot safer than bringing them as checked ins.

So don't worry just go ahead it is as good as you are bringing it personally.

I dont know how much contacting them over the phone will help. .

What i have heard is that the place is a mess. .and the only way to get around is to actually go there with an intent to buy and negotiate on what you have to buy out of what is available. .

a person on hifivision had said that boston acousics soundware xs 5.1 available for 17k without b&w....not sure about the latest price

About 2 weeks back, BA XS 5.1 was available at Alfa for 19.5k grey & 22k with bill & warranty. Don't remember receiver prices.

Reliance Digital had a deal on Marantz Receiver (not sure if it was NR1504 or NR1402) + BA XS 5.1 + Philips Bluray player for Rs.54,990

Not sure if you get quotes on the phone. Stuff with warranty is cheaper than showrooms most of the times. But unlike showrooms, you cannot bargain at Alfa. Rates are fixed.

Can anyone confirm if they have the newer Soundware S 5.1 in stock ?

I tried confirming over the phone, but the guy kept confusing it with the XS 5.1 , for which he quoted a price of 19k.
