Can a HDMI splitter split audio and video into two sources?

Hi.. I am again facing hand shake issues between my input source (computer) to projector via AVR. Tata Sky doesnt seem to have this problem though. Easiest way to get through this would be to directly connect my projector to my computer. Issue now is how to get audio via my AVR. HDMI splitter split one HDMI into multiple HDMI - hence if I use a splitter..can I connect one output to my projector and other output to AVR so that i can still get 5.1 audio ?

Have read few reviews about HDMI splitters.
It seems few models either one ot the output will work,,ie both output will not work together.
Check the models and reviews before purchasing any particular models.

I am in the same situation here. My denon AVR stopped sending video out due to its age(10 years) Luckily audio is functioning. So I am out to shop for HDMI splitter.
Any experienced guys out there.
