Hallo friends,

I have seen many of us import hifi stuff during their visit to abroad.
Many travel themselves OR even business tour often. Many times they may not buy anything.

So is there any chance to get hifi stuff from out with their help?
For doing this, one can offer them as final product's price can be much less than getting here.Few stuffs can be duty free when got personally & hence lot of money can be saved(direct shipping, duty etc).Actual price difference can be in thousands.(5 to 10k):clapping:.
I am not talking abt promoting business here, but a help from friends.

Many here may not have any contacts in abroad(relatives, friends). In my case I asked few friends traveling to UK,US to get spk,DVDp,even BDrom, but cldnt get as either they were worried abt customs or cldnt find in local market.

So are there any members who can help many others here?

when I ask someone to get something, I tell him to not to worry about customs. Pay if it is required to be paid, just ask if it is in allowed category/ price limit range before paying up blindly. There is still a lot of saving in terms of shipping, and since returning is not a cheap option, your friend can also test it before getting it for you.

Normally its a lot of responsibility but I think if we stick to each other on this forum, people living in the same zones like delhi ncr or mumbai/pune or blr/chennai it may work out. On a personal level.

You are right here as we shld have faith in each other, there shld be no doubts & attitude to help both.

well I think a person from this forum if traveling abroad will have hands and mouth full, with some more stuff stuffed elsewhere :ohyeah: so people here would not be able to help others, as they would be too loaded trying to help themselves :)

No one will do that for you :) :)

if u have very close friends, some times they may carry lightweight
stuff like ipod , you can go to techenclave froum , ask guys like KMD for a fee.

some forum members got projector of 50 k (US price)just by paying 10k ,home delivered.

this is a very common problem with many many of the members in the forum who are not frequent travelers or who do not have many friends abroad traveling or are too shy to ask a favour from the friends without paying them anything in return

I have an idea which can be implemented with suggestions from the other senior members of this forum.

1) We can have a category introduced as "Traveling Member<Country Name>" whenever the user wants to be open to taking requests for any purchases from members, something similar to "Donor Member"
2) The purchase requests would be moderated by the Administrator, who will then pass these requests to the traveling members.
3) A fixed percentage would be fixed by the moderator which includes the effort/time and money spent on procuring and getting stuff to india
4) Any customs duty paid, would have a receipt which would be provided to the buyer..if the traveler is able to avoid the custom duty then he will be eligible for a added fixed percentage of original cost..

:licklips:
Hope these plans are not too far fetched..

That is good option really. You should find such a contact and go for it if the final tax is only 1/5th.

Cheers

And may i suggest, 'paying your travelling friend in advance'.

This ensures your trust on him, thereby binding both parties well and ur friend shall not feel burdened least. And in most cases will happily fetch the stuff for u while he picks his.

You r right..:)

Adding to something from the related topic,, I enjoyed my friends and relatives help to import all my required stuffs from time to time for the last 10+ years. Very rarely i get refused for not carrying the stuffs required for me.

Starting from my 100gms DVD to 30kg Hifi system I have used their help. Our attitude and our care for them will help a lot. And also request should be placed on the appropriate time knowing their limits. Please dont involve or talk commercialy with friends and relatives.

As i mentioned earlier in santhosh post, below is realistic...But not related to forum members help spiro called for..Just for information..

Spreading some warm words Inside close family circle of the person whom you are going to handover the assignments will make them comfortable and make them die for you to get the things .

Some more tips::

Be an driver thru out their visit to India / Get some gifts which they like to take to USA or other country / Talk to them without any reason while they are in USA.

This can help you.....

Further to above topic what Siddharth Trehan told is perfectly right-- give the money in advance.. I usualy keep some money with my relative or my friends who travel frequently depending on my needs which i forecast for my future purchase.

As Jaya08 told a thread can be made, but not with commercial motive, just like forum members can post their visit to xxx country/town/duration of stay and can tell how much weight they can bring and what kind of stuff they are comfortable to bring. Members can approach them via PM( not post on the forum so thread will be taken over and lost who is travelling) to contact them and fix.

It is good that every forum member help others to get stuff and enjoy as Teky is doing....Last but least his colleagues are helping a lot because of Teky attitude and caring towards them is turning around.

Just apart from the above stuffs, "Suri" caring for our Chennai members meet by sending "Chips" to enjoy the show.:) and making us comfortable to spend more.

I have also been getting things from US through relatives and friends for the last 10 years. While the experience has been mostly good so far, at the end of the day it is a favour the traveller is doing for you. I am not always comfortable with that, but thats me. I have also been in the shoes of the traveller and I have myself landed in difficult situations wherein I find it difficult to refuse some last minute requests. So, unless it is very small and light and the traveller has sufficient notice, I have stopped requesting relatives or friends. If you are approaching someone to carry something, please give them the opportunity to say no by asking them repeatedly if they are comfortable.

If someone tells you that they are travelling light and are happy to get you what to want, that is a different story. These kind of travellers are moslty frequent flyers who travel on short business trips.

I think you may be referring to me. I paid 63k landing price in Bangalore for my Optoma HD20. I recommend KMD for lightweight/less bulky stuff. For bulky stuff, Borderlinx works well for me. Agreed you pay a premium, but the charge is for the quick service, clearing customs, courier to your door step and ofcourse you get to enjoy your AV stuff without having to depend on a relative or friend's travel schedule.

Teky has been very helpful to me and some others on the forum. Hats off to his helping nature and attitude:).

Thanks friends for your input.
Well I will not consider so lucky as I have very rare contacts in abroad.
Few may not like to carry stuff & even I dont ask as I know they wont.

Still I tried last yr for Tannoy surr, Oppo 980, LG BDrom ,everything failed.
So I just started the thread...

Some requests/thoughts are really admirable as this may help forum & forum members too.

The trouble with borderlinx and like services is that once cannot under-invoice the goods :D Of course if one wants to remain "ethical" then its not a benefit :)

Cheers

there are other issues to be worked out too. What happens if the goods are damaged by the airlines, or lost by the airlines. Who foots the bill, the guy who ordered or the guy who's traveling?

what about bribe which is paid to avoid customs duty? how it should be ascertained?
also transport for bigger items like avr?
