Can anyone help to Import hifi?

what about bribe which is paid to avoid customs duty? how it should be ascertained?
also transport for bigger items like avr?

for customs clearance best would be to have the end buyer come to the airport to greet the traveler so there are no doubts..
well as i said in the post.. input wd be required from the senior members to device a strategy.. but that is only if there is a interest from the frequent travelers..
the best solution that one can think of wd be a hifivision's own KMD..who is better accessible..and has plenty of contacts in customs..

Customs will give receipt so there is proof of payment. :)

we can have a bribe template bill book printed for HFV something similar to what we do with medical bills reimbursement for tax saving..
that can be used for getting a received ACK from the custom officer receiving the bribe.. :ohyeah:

Well friends,if everything works & friends who have more experience in transporting hifi,it will be a lot of help for us.We can enjoy many stuffs which we otherwise may only Dream.

I have been bringing hi-fi equipment over with me from the US/Singapore/Malaysia etc for the past 2-3 years. Some of my observations:
1. In the US due to the TSA rules - bags can and will be opened (especially if they have audio equipment - suspicious looking black boxes).
2. Though TSA officers are honest they dont do a great job of repacking the eqpt., so be prepared for damage when you arrive back.
3. The most friendly customs - IMO is Mumbai - especially when a bunch of flights arrive. If you have 1 checked in bag they will just let you walk out without using the scanning conveyor. Also they do not care if you have 1 component like a rcvr., dvd player, cd player, preamp, amp etc.
4. Second best was B'lore. I have had problems in Hyd. and delhi to some extent. no idea about chennai.
5. IMO the easiest components to bring back are the half width chassis comp. like the cyrus series. They can be packed carefully even with clothes around them and even if the bags are opened they tend to remain safe.
6. For projectors and such it is better to bring them in as carry on if they will fit (the newer 1080p lcds will not as they are big). I dont think that a projector will last in the checked in baggage.
7. Finally if customs stops you it is always good to have an invoice for the component with its serial no. clearly mentioned. Based on the value you can haggle with the customs guy and maybe work out an arrangement;). That is why i always buy a bottle of scotch (black label and chivas 12 are the most popular) and they really dont care about the much more expensive single malts:lol:
Anways thought I would share some of my experiences.
cheers

i dont think mumbai airport is the most friendly. i fly very frequently (mariner) and also from my friends, mumbai airport is worse (dont know whether its special treatment for sailors). i have experienced it twice, once when i landed up from amsterdam and once from dubai. every single person working there will ask for money.

i think chennai airport is good. i brought kenwood x9090 avr (16kg) with 5.0 sat speakers, a tool kit, sony digital camera, ipod, one blue label from brussels. all packed in one samsonite suitecase. and customs personal asked me the bill and charged me just 1.5k. and there is no other questions asked (ofcourse showed my cdc).

Quota is still 2 Bottles of 1 litre per person right?

Thats correct two bottles, but what goes to customs is not counted ;)

The other strange item is I have got more in the checked in luggage but its a risk that someone may flick it.

Items that look simpler for example, I dont think they would care if you get a blu ray player or dvd player as they look similar.

Similarly unknown names are better as they think its some cheap chinese brands :)
