I have a Canon EOS Rebel 35 mm autofocus SLR film camera. It has developed a problem regarding film transport. Originally on loading with film and closing the back, the film would be completely unspooled onto the rewind spool. On each exposure the film would retract into the cassette. At the end of 36 exposures the film would retract completely into the cassette, ready for being extracted from the camera and handed over to the developing and processing shop.
Recently it has developed a problem in advancing and rewinding the film. On loading the film and closing the camera back the film moves back and forth. After 36 exposures it does not retract completely into the cassette and gets exposed and spoilt on opening the camera back.
A camera dealer friend in Palika Bazar, New Delhi advised against investing in repairs, saying that it would be possible to buy a good equivalent camera with zoom lens for the cost of repairs (estimated at Rs. 4000-5000).
Is this opinion sound? I am reluctant to junk what has so far been a reliable camera. Can anyone suggest a good economical source for camera repairs?
If I have to go for an alternative camera, I would prefer a high end model like the EOS1 or EOS1n. Are any available for sale at reasonable prices?
Regards.
