Hi
My denon DCD700ae CD player has stopped reading half the discs.Looking for a replacement in 1000-2000$ range.
My system :
Denon PMA2000ivr- amplifier
Usher- Mini dancer1-speakers
Rega RP3 with ortofon OM10-TT
Audio art power cable and interconnects
JPS Labs - biwire speaker cables.
DIY chunk bass traps installed in room corners.
The overall sound is warmish and reasonably detailed through my analogue Rega source and I would like it if the CD player can catch up with it somewhat.
Looking for suggestions please.
cheers

just on different note----why dont you think of good DAC with PC/Laptop playback. CDs can be ripped to have FLAC/WAV format.

Cheers

Thanks Dheeraj
I have thought about it, and have not discounted the option fully, being a future possibility , but I still enjoy collecting/playing CDs so a disc transport is essential. Maybe something like the marantz sa8005 with digital inputs for using it as a DAC is an option.Any SA8004/5 users there? How does it compare with similarly priced rega/cambridge/oppo players for CD playback?
cheers

there was a marantz cdp on sale SA series sometime back - contact FM arun malur if interested.

rega cdp would be a good bet as would be a similar british brand like the exposure.

but there are many other choices as well.

There might be either an ayon or a trigon cd player that'll appear for sale soon - probably well within your budget. PM sandeepmohan for more info.

Well, the usual suspects till now:
Rega Appolo r- CD only
Exposure 2010s- CD only
Marantz SA8005-CD+DAC
Oppo BD105-CD + DAC +video
Ayon CD 1s-(used)-CD+DAC
Line magnetic-CD only
Cambridge Audio-750/850C-CD only
Audiolab-8200-CD+DAC

Im half inclined to make it futureproof by opting for the +DAC option
Any views on SA8005 vs Oppo105 vs Audiolab 8200?
Cheers

Out of those, I'd blindly pick the Ayon - it is in a completely different league of performance. It made the Rega dac, Oppo BD95 and CA 840c sound like toys really.

Yes ROC , I will surely agree with you on that, considering that I have listened extensively to my friends Ayon 2s.Its just that I am slightly apprehensive in buying used - having a vague notion that even the best cd players will only have residual transport life .
But still might just be the best option , thanks.

The thing to remember mostly about cd transports is that the first thing to fail is usually the cd drawer/tray. The laser assembly normally lasts a while. On those counts the ayon is good as it doesn't have a tray and is a top loader. The actual laser assembly is a bog standard sony which can be had on ebay at around 20$ + shipping. It is not that hard to replace and I'm sure ARN or any local electronics repair place will do it for a small fee.

I am planning to sell my Naim CD5x some time soon. Have not yet posted the ad here. Let me know if you are interested.

I am not sure with optical disc drives but most of them stops working after few hours of playback no matter how expensive and rugged they are.

Hi Himadri

You may want to consider LM Audio CD player. I have never heard it but I would trust Asits ears when he says it's very musical

Yes Prem, I would also. Not only the CD player but the Line Magnetic DAC seems to be another attractive proposition if I can somehow get my denon CD player repaired to function as a transport.I have no idea about the pricing though.
Cheers

I have not advertised the sale. For those interested, I have a Trigon Recall II up for grabs. Purchased in July 2014. Interested folks can PM me for details and pictures. Audition possible at my place.

Hi folks
What are your experiences with an entry level 400-500$ CD player like Marantz or Denon or Cambridge audio used as a transport with a higher end 1500-2000$ DAC like Benchmark DAC2 or line magnetic 502CA?
How would it campare with a stand alone exposure, rega, or higher end marantz CD player?
cheers
