Guys,
I have bought a samsung 43D490 plasma tv recently. Speaker is highly inadequate.
I have a HDMI player with digital optical out and also PC with altec lensing 5.1 speakers.
As of now i am connecting the TV to PC using HDMI in and i am making use of the PC 5.1 speakers for movies but TV programs cannot make use of these speakers.

Planning to upgrade to Videcon d2h HD connection,so i need some cheap VFM 5.1 speakers for the time being(say around 5k or even less)

I will upgrade to a onkyo home theatre setup as soon as i shift my home.

5.1 or even 2.1 will also be ok.
I need them to connect it to digital out of my HDMI player and also the D2h HD( i guess it has optical out).

Go for some Mitsun Speakers with optical/coaxial in. you will get for less than 5000. Later u can move to some real AVR speaker setup.

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
I visited ritchi street this weekend and found the MITSUN 5.1 speakers with optical output for 4.5k. Is it worth buying that speaker?
Any idea about the quality of the output?
Will it be atleast better than Altec lensing 251 speakers that i currently have?

This Mitsun speakers specs:

AC - 3/5.1 Channel amplifier,
Real 5.1 Channel
Optical/coaxial,Decoder
5.1 Active Subwoofer System
Power Supply : ~220V / 50Hz
Output Power : 50W + 15W*5
Driver : 6 1/2" / 8? subwoofer 3" /4?
S/N Ration : > 80db
Input Sensitivity : <500MV
Frequency Response :
Subwoofer : 30Hz - 200Hz
Satellite speaker : 200Hz - 20KHz
Distortion<01%

Altec lensing 251 specs:
Deep-bass, compact subwoofer

Total peak output: 90W
60 watts RMS(continouous)

Please suggest?

Though I own, Onkyo HT-S3400 and Pioneer with Mission speakers, I still continue to use my Mitsun speakers and I like them too. Will it be better than altec lansing? Well I dont know, as I have never heard them. You need to audition and find it yourself.

In your first post you have mentioned you want to connect using optical port. I dont think Altec Lansing 251 has optical port. Also it does not have remote control, whereas Mitsun speakers may have remote control, which you need to confirm.

I went ahead and bought Mitsun speaker.yet to connect it.

No altec lensing 251 does not have optical out.I have connected this to my PC and playing the movies with VLC player.
I am using the plasma as the 2nd monitor so that i can watch the picture in TV and sound from PC.
