Hi Members,

A quick check on Blu-Ray players which dont have Cinavia encryption. Anybody from the forum having a blu-ray player (3d capable) that does not have a problem with audio block error code 3 due to Cinavia?

I am planning to buy a 3d player and interested to know if any of you have faced any problem. I discreetly remember about a thread discussing this issue. Just need more clarity.

thanks.

It is mandatory for manufacturers to include Cinavia protection into their units. Cinavia, hdcp, drm, and other such host of copyright protection is party and parcel of most hardware.

You can buy a older model which doens't have Cinavia and try not update the firmware....but again sometime for the newer blu rays some players forces you to update the firmware...but technically if don't connect the player to internet then the chance of it forcing to update the firmware might be less....you have look for 2010 models to be on the safer side. All new models have to implement Cinavia if they need blu ray license.

Or you can buy media player with built-in blu ray drive like Popcorn Hour C300 which doesn't have Cinavia. Again these kind of media players with bulit-in blu ray drives will become extinct soon due to Cinavia.

Thanks Manny and Just4kix,

I want a 3D blu-ray player thats available in online store in india, which I can buy. can be a older version too!!!.
How about Panasonic and Pioneer? Are they available in online retail store in india? I was searching in vain.

thanks.

Arindam, thanks for your suggestion. Most of my 2d contents are original and I buy if I really like to have them as my collection. there are few which comes from friends, I dont need to buy them as they have already ripped it. This is just to be sure.

Buy original Bluray disc and forgot Cinavia.Kill Piracy.

Agreed.. although I don't support piracy, but if it will not be there, then the production houses might raise the prices of BD discs and DVDs to abnormal level.. piracy is a direct competition to them and alternate option to the general public.. as long their pricing will be rationale not many will go for pirated version.. For example if a BD costs around 400-500 bucks like in US & UK, then we will be more than happy to buy the original, but if they starts charging let's say more like 2000 to 3000, many of us might go for pirated content for most of the titles .. So in a sense it helps in rationalising the pricing of the originals..

Please Note I am not advocating piracy

Pirates are mostly un-affected by DRM, region coding etc. Their source material is rarely, if ever, the retail media you and I shell out the big bucks for. Don't believe me, Google it.

DRM, region coding etc. usually screws over paying legitimate customers by needlessly making things more difficult for them than it ought to be. Media companies will do well to stop treating their customers as thieves. Making content readily available at fair prices and not expecting mindless rubbish to make them money at every turn will help even more.

And that could be one of the reason why "The Dark Knight Rises" BluRay was out on torrent on 18th November...2 weeks before its official release !!
I kept on wondering how the hell it could happen !!
I had pre-ordered it since the day it was listed on Amazon US. The earliest release was made available in Germany on 30th November; but Pirates made it available to world on 18th November. I am still looking for answers... Is the production house itself doing something fishy ?

The whole media distribution enterprise is leaky as hell. Sometimes perhaps intentionally too. There was a research study that found the Megaupload shutdown affected box office sales negatively Megaupload Shutdown: Negative Effect on Box Office Revenues. Wonder why?

Also read the wiki article on "The Scene" for starters and then Google is your friend for more info.

I don't advocate piracy. But i don't like copy protection either. I buy originals because after buying gear worth 3 lakhs, i would like to get full enjoyment of the quality the source can deliver. Another thing, I cannot wait days for a download to complete.

Could have been a copy of a screener; these sometimes make sure to say so in the bottom but sometimes do not. I do not advocate piracy at all too and quality does matter to me. I seem to feel most of the pirated stuff says BD on the cover but are actually SD. It becomes very obvious once you start watching one. I suppose they mean it must have been copied from a BD source?

well said guys.... none of us are towards encouraging piracy here, but we also need to remember that no one is running a revolution against piracy. Buy or no-buy decision rests with the individuals. I may not buy but i cant keep out of friends who buy BD's available for 150-200 in local markets and not to mention original 3d blu rays rips available for 500.

Anyone would be tempted here. Movies like The Dark Knight rises definitely needs original BD viewing others like expendables 2, Underworld or a resident evil does not require to go for originals. We simply borrow and share them. there is nothing wrong in this.

I spent a good amount recently on the Avengers 3D version in India, a person outside this forum not discussing piracy would have spend 30% of that to get this movie...!!!

I think this thread has deviated a bit, but was good to have comments from all.

Today, I checked LG, Sony and Toshiba. all of them are infected with Cinavia. Let me keep checking and I will update soon.

thanks.
