Help me chose a VFM Headphone arn 5 -6 k
Usage would be
1. Videos/Sitcoms from Lappy mostly
2. Audio : Classical ,Hindustani, Cine Songs
3. Late Night TV viewing with AVR
4.Occasional gaming...

I have seen reviews of Senheisser, Audio Technica, Denon ... Help me chose which would be best one...

dial2karthik,
Would you be okay with open backed headphones? They would leak a bit of sound( someone sitting in the same room would be able to hear what you are listening to. But usually such headphones have low clamping force(I.e they wont press/clamp hard against your ears) and would be more comfortable for extended sessions. They usually have a wider soundstage.
You could look at the Senheisser hd555, Audio Technica ad700 for your budget. These are two that I have used and can recommend.
There are other options from Shure, Beyerdynamic etc but the Sennheisser is probably the easiest to source.

AD700 seems to be a great one.. reviews are very healthy...
do u mean these two are not complete noise isolating heahdphones ?
with regards to AT, flipkart shows its not available.. n ebay lists only one piece available at 11k INR...

any suggestions

dial2karthik, Yes, the AT AD700 are very good. I own a pair. You could try it thru ebay global or ask Pristine Note to get one for you.

thnks mate...
btw i am unaware of headphone amplifiesrs like FiiO etc...

do u mind throwing some light on it..
am totally new to this audiophile section

AD700 is an open-back headphone and they are not designed to isolate noise.

I own these headphones and you can hear almost every bit of what is happening outside. These headphones are meant for quite rooms such as study, music room etc.

Also, the music you are listening to leaks and it is surely a disturbance to anyone sitting next to you.

If you are planning to use your headphones in public places or for commute where noise levels are high, you should ideally be looking at closed-back headphones.

Ad700 is in no way recommended for commute/portable use. They are quite large in size, open backed and have a very lengthy wire.

karthick, as for amplification, you dont really need it with the Ad700. It does just as well unamplified. They sound quite good straight off your ipod/sansa etc. I use it with a nuforce udac when I am playing stuff from my laptop. Otherwise I use it straight off the Sansa clip's headphone out.

If you can increase your budget a bit, I would highly recommend the Bose AE2. Have been using them for a few months and they are very comfortable + great sound quality
