Hello friends found this place interesting to get help from for my newly ordered not yet delivered Philips HTS5530 5.1 home theatre...now here is my query..

They showed us the demo in store and it was fantastic..now my question is i got Tatasky HD STB and LG jazz theatre 32' LH60 series full HDTV..which have in-built so called virtual 5.1 channel surround..but i would like to have my HDTV connected to my coming home-theatre...

Now the thing is how to connect HDTV to home theatre(as prescribed above model)..i got three coloured ports just like AVI but it is not video output..it is variable audio output..so does that mean that voice of the TV is transferred through connecting those red-yellow-white pin to home-theatres red-yellow-white audio in? i mean to say i know to connect it..but i would like to know will that carry my 5.1 HD channel sound as 5.1 sound or just stereo...

Just a bit poor with my language..but i need the help thank you for any suggestions..i just want to get my tv HD channels output in 5.1 on my home-theatre..and yes my HDTV is capable of having several connections like HDMI,components,etc...and my tatasky HD is connected to my HDTV through HDMI...

And yes i would like to connect my HDTV to my home-theatre and not my STB to be precise...

Thank you any help would be appreciated

How much you paid for the home theater (HTIB)? Does it have coaxial or optical inputs?

You want to get 5.1 output by connecting the TV audio to the HTIB, right?

In the 3 pin out of the TV that you described, the yellow is for video and the other two are for Left and Right audio. So you won't get true surround sound from the TV.

To get true 5.1 surround sound from your HD DTH, your HTIB should have optical (or coaxial) input and you should connect the optical/coaxial output of the DTH box to it.

If you can cancel the order and up your budget then go for an Onkyo 3400 HTIB.

yes it does have coaxial input i bought it for 16k

yes how can i get that as my home-theatre does have coaxial input..actually can you explain me with few links or image of the coaxial cable looks like..is there just one or many types

I understand what you meant to say me here you are talking about AV input right? i already have avi1 and av2 input on my HDTV..but i got third one which is certainly not av3 input as in my manual as well as TV it just shows av1 av2 component hdmi1 hdmi2 hdmi3 and RGB inputs only..so it certainly not third then what is that for? and below that it is written "variable audio output" behind my HDTV below those 3 pins and one more thing the avi inputs are written as av1 or av2 IN that means inputs...but in that third case its written AV out so that means its output..is there any kind of AV output from hdtv? i dont think so

Yes but what if i have optical or coaxial output from my HDTV i am sure there might be some because my HDTV already was made for music only..so i am sure there might be some way...i want to know how will that coaxial/optical input look like on my HDTV..as well as cable..i searched for on google but was not out with required result..so i would be glad if you can help me on this..

Thank you for your time

Oh and ya cancellation of order is not an option for me now...:( but i am happy with what philips has to offer...but i would like to know what does onkyo 3400 offers..i am getting HDMI support to my HDTV so that videos look crispier as well as USB which supports various formats like mpeg1 mpeg2 mp4 divx..image format such as jpg...upscaling of SD videos to 1080p...3d surround sound i.e. the sound spread 360 from each speaker with 1000watts...!!

So your HTIB has coaxial input. Does the Tatasky HD also has coaxial output? If it has then you can connect the coaxial output of Tatasky hd to coaxial input of your HTIB to get 5.1 sound. A coaxial cable looks exactly like the normal AV cable (RCA cable). You can use a single RCA cable for coaxial connection.

From your description, the three pins seems to be component input which is another form of video input that can support upto 1080i. However it does not support audio. I have no idea what is meant by 'Variable Audio Output'.

Onkyo 3400 has an AV Receiver which can take multiple audio and video inputs and process them. This htib can decode HD audio also.

A coaxial cable looks exactly like a single channel RCA interconnect (The second image on this webpage)

A coaxial-input jack looks exactly like a single RCA jack.

"Variable Audio Output" on a TV means that the level of the audio output (= volume) can be controlled by the volume button on the TV remote. If you connect the HTIB to the TV using this output, you can control the volume using the TV remote. This is a nice feature to have when you're connecting a set of active speakers or such which do not have a remote.

The "Line Out" output will transfer a fixed level audio output to your HTIB. The volume will need to be controlled with your HTIB remote.

I'm afraid I didn't quite understand the rest of what you'd written.

I assume this is your HTIB and this is your TV.

Your TV does not have a digital output, though your HTIB has a digital coaxial input.

The HTIB unfortunately does not have a HDMI-in. I don't think your TataSKY HD box has a digital coaxial-out (if it does please let us know). It probably has a HDMI-out, but the HTIB does not have a HDMI-in.

In any case, the HTIB seems to have a built-in decoder for "Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 96/24, DTS Digital Surround" as per the website.

I'd suggest you connect as follows:

TataSKY HD >> HDMI-out >> HDMI cable >> TV's HDMI-in
TV >> AV out >> RCA cable >> HTIB's Aux-in1

If the HTIB has a remote, I suggest that you NOT use the TV's variable-out, and use the red & white jacks of the TV's AV-out instead.

yes my HTIB has remote...ok so you mean cable has two pin end one side of colour(red and white) and just one single pin to go in aux1 of HTIB kind of cable..ok so i got to buy it new one? or will it be included in the package itself..as it has not arrived yet at my place..but i hope it will be as it consists of various modes like USB,etc which even consists of TV..so i hope the wire should be included in it to connect with my HDTV..yes unfortunately i dont have HDMI IN in my HTIB..orelse the problem would have solved easily...however (offtopic) may i know what is divx ultra feature means? does it mean it can play divxHD videos? as i have HDMI capable HTIB so just gave a thought....

finally i got my HTIB delivered...now i came to know that my HTIB is capable of AUX-in as well as Coaxial input...my HD STB is also capable of coaxial output..so i guess all i need now is coaxial cable..

Now i know there are different types of coaxial cables available in the market..but according to the ports i think i should go with below image as both the ends there is just single port..so is that the cable i should look for..below is the image

^^ That's a coaxial cable with a BNC connector. I'm fairly certain this is not what you need.

What you need is a coaxial cable with RCA-type connectors on both ends. Something like this one.

But please do confirm that the sockets on the HD box and the HTIB are RCA-type. Like this (the jack on the left, in the third image from top). They will most likely be.

Congrats on the HTIB purchase! :)

Thank you for all the help mate...will give it a try and let you know out here on how it will work..!!! And the HTIB looks great...:)
Just one more off topic question my HTIB will be connected with HDMI with my HDTV for DVD and USB viewing..will it have certain change in my video viewing does upscaling 1080p will really work with my HD source rip avi videos? If not HD will the HD source videos be atleast close to it..? well however even the stereo sounds seems great to ears as it have some dolby pro decoders sort of stuff in it...:p not much of knowledge but treat to ears..will it be same with video quality?

Akshay, I'm with hydra on this... I would be damn surprised if you needed the cable you have shown - normally used for antenna or even cable tv connections.
