Firends, I am new to this forum. Got stuck in between making one decision. Your expert opinions are anticipated.

Recently I have visited few electronics shop and zeroed on these models : LG - 42LM6410, Samsung 40ES6200, Sony 40HX750.
I am budget conscious and VFM buyer. I am not able to choose among these models due to Spec or VFM.
I am getting 42LM6410 at Rs.62.5K (Unhappy as no headphone out), 40ES6200 at 60.2K (Price!!!! Samsung Employee benefit!! but unhappy as Active 3d). 40HX750 @ 68K. (No mkv and Active 3D). My normal tv viewing experience will be 60% SD, 30% HD/BD mkv/mp4 movies, 10% 3D. Budget can go upto 65K.
For both Budget and mkv, 40HX750 is ruled out. I am inclined to LG but sammy getting cheaper for me. Heard lots on Active and Passive, IPS and PVA.
I will not be buying any tv in recent 5 years. So inclined towards having SMART features.

Can you help guys?

Well, you can decide between Plasma or LED based on 1. if you intend to put that in a dark corner ? 2. Will you be transporting this item a lot in the newxt few years 3. If the room is small, heat will be evident 4. Power consumption.
Plasma is very cheap now, gives best picture quality: but uses glass panel and comes with active 3d usually. 3D rendering requires good luminousity, Im not sure if plasma can provide that.

This year all the major players are coming with passive 3D displays: Sony, Toshiba, LG and they announced models also. In my situation today I will go for the 6410 model for features like dual play, more app support, good 3D rendering, and control levels. Sammy is active 3D. 62K is good deal.

HG

Thanks HG!

My movement will be restricted to 1 or max 2 in coming 5 years. I am not inclined towards plasma as they consume more power. Alert & conscious on GHG emissions.. :) . Also My room is not that Big.
How do you feel about upscaling from SD to HD in Samsung & LG?

Thanks Prosenjit. Will contact you!

If you want 3D, it is better to go for the Passive 3D, as it is easy on eyes of the majority, though I also agree with Just4ix that you need a much bigger screen for enjoying 3D to the fullest, projector or a bigger screen > 50 .
So if 3D is on your list of requirements, it is better to wait for Sony to launch passive 3D in India which is due in 2013. Then make your decision comparing Sony, LG & Toshiba. If you are ok with Active 3D and it suits your family too, then you have many Sammy, Sony & Pana already in the market. Note Pana also has a Passive 3D which when I demoed it was impressive.
I have LG 47LM6200 passive 3D and I am happy with it, though I would have loved to go with LM6700 and above, but could not get their due to budget.

First of all, just because you don't want to buy a TV for another five years, does not mean that Smart TV is the way to go. New Smart Apps will be added in new models and what is current today will be outdated in six months to a year. Secondly, believe me when I say, "you will not use smart features at all after the initial excitement is over".

Next on your criteria is 3D. Even though I have said that passive 3D is more comfortable, 3D is not something you will watch day-in and day-out - even after 5 years. The kind of 3D that is present in TVs, be it active or passive, is not comfortable for long periods. I have some blu-rays of movies that have 3D and 2D. I prefer to watch 2D anyday because I find it darn uncomfortable to wear 3D glasses on top of my prescription glasses. Once again I am not going into the "light" (12-15g) passive 3D glasses vs. the slightly heavier (23g) active 3D glasses. 3D is just not comfortable to watch for extended periods. Period.

But if you really want to enjoy 3D, 55" or higher size is recommended. I find that my 50" is not emmersive enough. So restrict your 3D viewing to the cinema halls.

So basically, it comes down to "what TV". Select TV for picture quality alone - nothing else matters. I am not saying whether Sony is better or Samsung is better or LG is better. You check out the quality yourself.

I completely agree... I own a 3D TV for the last 1 & half year (1st one was replaced after an year of usage).
I would have used 3D and Smart features myself for not more than 48 hours in the last 1 & 1/2 yr . But like many, I also though of future proofing myself for next 5 yrs , hence bought 3D & Smart TV. Dont know how much of that I will use in future ... Only God Knows :)

I find the behavior of salesmen trying to push LG TVs for their smart features and the IPS panel which does not distort when you poke it - completely ignoring the picture quality part very strange:sad:

After all the first criteria for buying a TV should be picture quality followed by sound. Today's smart features may not be smart tomorrow and I find a media player option with smart features for connecting to the TV more cost effective and also easy to replace in future.
Finally why would any one press the TV Panel and make the picture distort - The apparent advantage of IPS panels!!

bibhuti you are very welcome into my place...come and we will discuss everything and select (type/make/model/size) a tv acording to your need and room and finance situation...
i will acompany you also in demos...
i love AV hunts
just relax...

If you are sure that you want to go for a 3D LED Smart TV .... then I suggest you to go for LG 42LM6410. Because, I was in the same condition three weeks ago. I went out to buy Samsung UA46ES6800RLXL LED TV.
First I went to TMC (Tirumala Music Center, electronics retailer here in AP) where I was forced to buy Panasonic TH-L47ET5D by the sales guy. So, I left the shop and then went to Reliance Digital.
That is when I saw LG 47LM6690 :yahoo:. There was an offer on Samsung television at that time and I was offered Samsung UA46ES6800RLXL fro 89k. As both LG and Samsung televisions were placed side by side, I was clearly able to feel that LG was better. Everyone in my family agreed with my opinion and then we finally got LG 47LM6690 for 96k :clapping:
Even though it was 7k expensive, I felt that it is worth spending that extra money.

The passive 3D in LG is just brilliant, there were 4 pairs of glasses inside the box and they are pretty good to wear unlike the Samsung's active shutter glasses which were very flimsy and uncomfortable.
Before going to the store I didn't have a very good opinion on LG as all the LG phones in our family were the worst we have ever used. But, after this purchase, my opinion is changed.

I have been always favouravle to passive 3D. But I would like to warn everyone about the trap of "low cost passive 3D glasses". Often this is quoted by salesmen as well as FMs:

- light (< 15g)
- low cost (Rs. 300-350 for a pair)
- TV comes with 4 pairs and not just 2

But please note that:
- Samsung active 3D glasses are just a tad heavier at 23g
- Samsung glasses are double the price but note that LG and other passive 3D TVs are already expensive for the equivalent active 3D LED model (by about 7-8k)
- Since the TV is already costly, manufacturer does not mind giving 2 extra pairs; actually they can give 8 pairs and still make large profit

The only place where passive 3D glasses are cheap is the "battery" or the lack of it. No battery - no running cost. In case of active 3D, the button cell (CR-2025) lasts about 30-40 hours of actual viewing. The battery is cheap at Rs. 25 per piece.

True !!!!
But, which one do you think is more comfortable to wear for a couple of hours ?

I have the samsung glasses...there is too much space for light to creep in between the glasses and the frame particularly in bright lighting....It sort of spoils the fun.Plus its slightly flimsy.glasses are heavy and the frame too light..feels like it may fall off any moment..

Sony glasses are not comfortable to wear. After a few minutes your nose and ear will start complaining. This is in addition to the ear fatigue.

Couple of hours? I would prefer the light models. I find that Samsung glasses are fine and quite ok. Have not experienced the LG glasses; so can't speak or comment but i would expect them to be very bearable. But this is not the point I was making.

Most of my movie watching is at night and I watch plasma in diffused light - day or night. So I don't gave much issue. Anyway, i like them better than the original Panasonic ones.

I respect ur comment above , howewver may I ask u , whatever the lg sales guy told u , was it completely untrue and what is ur opinion abt the so called benifits he mentioned . are they completely useless...
if I want to tell u my exp, in vijay salesin yr 2011 they pushed me for sony, in croma on nagar rd, they pushed me for pana plasma.. In inorbit mall jumbo they pushed me for pana et50 led and same was in vijay sales in 2012...in fact in croma , there were 3 salesman each having their own agenda/inclination towards sony , lg and pana plasma...
I am not saying they will not have a vested interest in whay they are marketin for, but stil in my exp, typically they market the product depending upon the customers... Someone who is curious to know abt lg, they push him for lg, someone on sammy, they push him for the same...
Coming to pq, I think those in pune can pm me and visit my house to see my lg 47lm6200 after calibration settings I took from avsforum, I am sure u woll not be disappointed.
